Evangelism: How to win a soul for the kingdom of God

Posted on

2 Corinthians 10 vs 33 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

  1. This is really a scripture for soul winning rather than for deliverance.
  2. Several issues are clear from this scripture.Image result for 2 Corinthians 10 vs 3 - 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
  3. You may not be able to win a soul simply be evangelizing.
  4. There are strong holds that have held unbelievers captive and you need to pull them down in the spirit before you can win the captives for Christ
  5. You cannot win a soul through debate and arguments on the scriptures.
  6.  If for instance someone asks you: How are you sure there is heaven, have you been to heaven before? I am sure you may not be able to give a convincing response.
  7. You cannot win a soul by trying to debunk philosophies and theories against the Bible.
  8. The most effective way of soul winning is intercessory prayer and fasting to cast down strongholds that have held believers captive.
  9. You need to engage in warfare in the spirit to set unbelievers free physically and spiritually.

Commentary on Luke 8: The divine touch of Jesus

Posted on

Luke 8 vs. 43-46

43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,

44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.

45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

  1. The woman with the issue of blood for 12 years touched Jesus and was healed
  2. Someone needs to touch Jesus today, to receive a miracle.
  3. Someone needs to be touched by Jesus to receive healing
  4. Receive the touch of Jesus and be healed
  5. Receive the touch of Jesus for favour
  6. Receive the touch of Jesus for fruitfulness
  7. Receive the touch of Jesus for breakthrough in Jesus name.

MESSENGER OR MESSAGE?

Posted on Updated on

  By Pastor Enoch Adeboye
Memorise: “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8)

Read: Isaiah 40:6-8

In 2 Kings 5:9-12, when Naaman eventually got to the house of Elisha, he felt too big to enter. He stayed outside and waited for the man of God to come and meet him. However, Elisha sent a messenger to him, instructing him on what to do to be cured of his leprosy.

Naaman was furious. He felt humiliated. ‘Who does this so-called prophet think he is anyway? Has he not heard of my name? He feels too big to come out to attend to me, and finally sent a messenger’, he wondered. He decided to return to Syria! Whenever God sends a message through a messenger, one is more important than the other.

The message is God’s Word. God’s Word is the same as God (John 1:1). Therefore God’s Word is more important than the messenger or vessel through whom it is sent. Several believers today are not different from Naaman in this aspect. When they get to church and discover the preacher taking the sermon is not the G.O. or pastor, they will suddenly grow cold on the message.

You will hear some of them say, ‘ I don’t get blessed whenever any other pastor preaches other than my pastor’. This is a mark of childhood. If your reception of God’s Word is dependent on who preaches and who does not preach, you are exalting the messenger above the message.

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8). Today’s reading tells us that long after the messenger has passed away, the Word of God still stands. If you are a true seeker of the Most High, the messenger He uses in communicating with you does not matter. You will joyfully receive the message and act on it.

Today, even when some prophetic utterances are coming directly from the Throne of Grace, some highly learned intellectuals cannot receive it, because they focus on the grammatical errors of the messenger. Some find it difficult to receive a divine message coming through their child, ward or even house help.

If Naaman had not listened to his house help, he would have died a leper. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Concentrate on the Word not the messenger. The messenger can make mistakes being a man, but God’s Word stands forever. Sharpen your reception today!

Father, help me to receive your messages through whatever medium you choose.

Christmas sermon on the birth of Jesus Christ: I shall rewrite my family history

Posted on Updated on

Mathew 1 vs 1: The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Mathew 1 vs 17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

  1. There are 42 generations between the Abraham and birth of Jesus, but Jesus was only called the son of two out of his 42 ancestors.
  2. Jesus was called the Son of Abraham and David.
  3. The forty other ancestors were mentioned just in passing, because they were not story changers like Abraham and David.
  4. Why was Jesus referred to as son of David, son of Abraham? Why not son of Josias, and son of Azor, who are part of his ancestors?
  5. It is simply because the history of the ancestry of Jesus Christ changed during the lifetime of Abraham and David

Prayers:

  1. My name, rewrite the history of my generation in Jesus name
  2. My name, redefine the history of my descendants up to the 42nd generation in Jesus name
  3. My name shall be the reference point for my family in Jesus name

WHAT PRAYER CAN CHANGE

Posted on Updated on

    By Pastor Enoch Adeboye
Memorise: “Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 18:19)

Read: Mark 4:35-41

matthgew-18Jesus encounter with Heaven in the Garden called Gethsemane reveals the immutability of God. He cannot be changed by our prayers since He maintains His essence eternally. If prayer cannot change God, why pray? If prayer cannot change God, it can change people. For instance, on Mount Carmel in 1 Kings 18:36-39, the same people who had equated the Almighty God with idols suddenly began to scream: “The Lord is God, the Lord is God” after prayer.

If people are undecided on who the true God to be worshipped is, it is because we believers have not prayed to the point of effecting a change. Many believers were prayed into the Kingdom. I am one of them. Are your loved ones, relatives and friends still living in sin? It is an evidence that you have not prayed enough for them. Back up your evangelism with serious intercession as you stand on scriptures that promise salvation for the lost. Many evangelistic outreaches and efforts are lost to prayerlessness.

With prayer, you can change the decisions of people on issues. Those who were opposed to you can become affectionately disposed to you if you can pay the price on your knees. Your prayer closet is a strong control room. Use it regularly from today or you will be held accountable for the changes you could have made which you failed to make.

Although prayer cannot change God, it can however change situations and circumstances for good. Every challenge, situation or circumstance that comes your way is waiting for the right prayer heat to change it. Through prayer, you rename problems. Whatever does not make you happy can suddenly be changed to deliver your greatest joy, if exposed to the appropriate change agent – effective and fervent prayer.

In 1 Samuel 16:11-13, a shepherd boy changed his job and became a most famous king through prayer. What is that unpleasant situation before you now? Confront it with your prayer fire and see it change before you. When the wind and waves arose against Jesus and His disciples in Mark 4:35-41, He said a prayer of decree and the tempest ceased. What is that contrary wind blowing against your family or business? Take it up in prayer and it shall cease.

Agree with your prayer partner over a certain matter you want to come to pass and pray about.

ASKING FROM THE TOP?

Posted on Updated on

    By Pastor Enoch Adeboye
Memorise: “Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off” (Psalm 138:6)

Read: 2 Kings 5:9-12

138Elisha heard how the Israeli king tore his royal robe into shreds for fear that the king of Syria was seeking an occasion for war with them, so he invited Naaman over to his house. Naaman came with pomp and pageantry. He came with fine horses and chariots and was decorated with his uniform as a general. He got to Elisha’s house but felt it was not presentable enough so he stayed outside. He was the one in need of help yet he was the one exhibiting pride.

With all the things he was proudly displaying, he was still a leper. Without Jesus Christ, a sinner is still a sinner no matter how highly placed he is. Sin in the life of a sin is worse than leprosy, hence a sinner is worse than a leper. Every sinner is far removed from God except the fellow takes advantage of the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary. Isaiah 1:18 says, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool”.

This talks of the efficacy of the blood of Jesus Christ. What is meant here is that even if one’s sins have been doubly immersed into the deep coloured dye of the coccus worm meant to give it a permanent fix, it can be restored to its original whiteness. The blood of Jesus can both deal with the colour and texture of sin. This means, no matter what sin you have committed, there is forgiveness for you if you can sincerely come to Jesus and ask for cleansing by His blood today.

Another lesson here has to do with attitude. Pride and blessing never go together. Psalm 138:6 says, “Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off”. The spirit of pride can never walk in agreement with our God. Never! As high as God is, He will only regard the lowly or humble seeker. You cannot seek God if you feel too big, too knowledgeable or too wise.

As long as you cannot come down from your high tower to meet God at the lowly place, you may never meet Him. Whenever you are seeking God’s blessing, align your ways with His. Humble yourself. Forget how important people say you are. Come to Him as a nobody – someone who is helpless, hopeless and impoverished. Call out to Him with humility and He will hear you. Some people cannot get their desires, not because they are not asking, but because they are asking from a high place instead of the lowly place.

Humility is key to receiving from God.

ACCEPTABLE COVENANT BREAKING

Memorise: “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom” (2 Timothy 4:1)

Read: Romans 1:29-31

wisemenThe wise men immediately responded to the revelation of the unusual star they saw announcing the birth of Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12). These were nobles, highly respected and feared, but when the unusual star revealed that Jesus was more than any noble they had seen, they decided to seek Him. They did not worship Herod because he was just an ordinary king. All nobles have just One person they must bow to: His Name is Jesus Christ.

Any noble, president, governor, captain of industry or highly placed individual who feels too big to bow to Jesus now, will bow to Him later – when He seats to judge all men (2 Timothy 4:1). The difference is, if you bow now to Him, He will be on your side and make you a king under His everlasting Kingdom. That Kingdom has no end (Daniel 2:44). But if you fail to bow to Him now, it will be too late for the fellow if he or she dies in that state.

Have you bowed to Jesus Christ of Nazareth? If you can bow to Him, He will make sure your enemies bow to you. It is great wisdom to bow to the King of kings. Any king in your life or circumstance who refuses to bow to His will shall be uprooted this season in Jesus’ Name.

On the other hand, before the wise men departed, king Herod entered into an agreement with them that they must bring him feedback on the city, address and details on this child born king. After they traced the star to the location of the King of kings and had worshipped and offered Him gifts, they had a dream. In it, God warned them not to return to king Herod.

In fact, they were not to take the path they came by. By this, they were to break their covenant or agreement with Herod. But why would a God who is against covenant breaking encourage breaking of certain covenants at the same time (Romans 1:29-32)? Any covenant that God does not uphold is null and void. Any covenant that goes against God’s Word or will is voidable. If before you were born again, you had a certain covenant or agreement with the kingdom of darkness, now that you are born again, you are under no obligation to stick with it.

You can and should void it. Break it. Renounce it. You are now under a new government. You must not adhere to the agreements of the secret societies, lodges, cults or covens you once belonged after you have received Christ. Also, you should not fear them because you are now operating a far higher authority than any satanic group. Submit yourself for deliverance prayers and destroy all their symbols, regalia, books and property. You have no agreement with hell. Break away from all sin partners.

List negative covenants you have been involved in. Break them one by one using the authority in the Name of Jesus Christ.

DELISTED?

Posted on Updated on

    By Pastor Enoch Adeboye
Memorise: “And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book” (Exodus 32:33)

Read: Revelation 20:11-15

blotted-8-728“On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king” (Esther 6:1).

The story of Mordecai is an interesting one with several lessons for us today. The first thing that comes to mind is that every organized kingdom keeps records. Just as king Ahasuerus kept records of events, so does the King of kings. Heaven has lots of books out of which are some registers for human beings. Revelation 20:11-15 tells us of two sets of books – the book of life and the books of death. Everyone that is born into this world has his or her name in one of the books.

Wherever your name falls is where all your deeds will be recorded. Everyone who is born again and is still living right until time of death can be assured that his or her name is in the book of life. The moment you are washed in the blood of Jesus and become a new creature in Christ, your name enters the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 21:27).

It takes your daily living to please Him to sustain your name there. If you return to sin, God has no choice but to erase the name of that fellow from this book. Also, what will happen to anyone and where the fellow will spend eternity will be determined by which book the fellow’s name is. Every sinner’s name is in one of the books of death, hence, they will be doomed in eternal hell.

“And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book” (Exodus 32:33). Even from the time of Moses, it was common knowledge that God had a book where all righteous souls are listed. Are you born again? If yes, congratulations! It is not enough to have your name in the most important book in the universe. Keeping it there is the challenge.

Satan is out to delist your name from that book. That colleague that is mounting pressure on you to compromise with sin, is actually Satan’s vehicle to delist you. Some powerful names have been delisted from that book. Judas Iscariot and Demas once had their names in that book but were delisted. It is only when your name is there, that you will be entitled to your portion from God’s Kingdom. Do everything in your power to retain your name in this glorious book. Has your name been delisted? Re-enrol today!

Father, frustrate every known or unknown move of the enemy to delist my name from the Lamb’s Book of Life. Lord, fill this year’s Convention with your presence, power, and miracles. Grant us journey mercies during the Convention.

QUALIFYING YOUR GIFTS

Posted on Updated on

   By Pastor Enoch Adeboye
Memorise: “Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 15:26)

Read: Acts 15:25-26

menAccording to Ephesians 5:26, water is a type of the word. In 2 Samuel 23:14-17, David who was in a hideout requested for the water from the well by the gate of Bethlehem instead of one from the enemy’s territory. As pastors and leaders, the quality of God’s word that is dished to members during each meeting should be of the highest quality, oven-fresh, sizzling and garnished with Holy Ghost spices. There is a hunger in the heart of every genuinely born again Christian.

If you are able to satisfy that hunger, not by acrobatics and worldly eloquence and philosophy, but by the sincere milk of the word backed by the Holy Spirit, they will stay. There will be no need for them to seek water elsewhere. But if you present them with dry, stale and cold dishes, expect member migration to other assemblies. What are you doing to improve the quality of your church services to ensure everything members encounter in your assembly helps to promote their growth?

Another significant thing about David and his mighty men here is that after he declared his need for the water at Bethlehem, and some brave men risked their lives and brought the water to him, he saw it as the blood of these men and rather offered the water to the Lord. Water was offered but it was being taken as blood. What does this mean?

A gift that is offered can change form depending on the prevailing conditions under which it was offered. The eventual value of a gift is a function of the level of sacrifice put into it. Because the three men risked their lives to bring that water to David, its value suddenly shot up, and was rated in the same class with blood – the value of a man.

Any gift you present to God without some risk or sacrifice automatically devalues. For instance, if you have N100 million and you offer N1 million to God, its worth may be reduced to N10,000 or even less because no real risk was involved. If you endangered your life or family to be able to raise N500 and you offer it to God, its value automatically could be up to N1 million to God.

Stop devaluing your gifts! Ensure the element of risk or sacrifice is ever present in any gift you present to the Lord from today. Sacrifice is a positive qualifier and value raiser. Employ it always. Paul and Barnabas always included this ingredient of sacrifice.

Always blend your offerings with spices of sacrifice. Great dividends will follow.

One of the key highlights of Mark 5 is that it gives more insight into the nature and activities of demon spirits.

What does the Bible say about demons?

  • They destroy destinies- diverting their victims from comfort to tombs and cemetery.(Mark 5 vs.2), And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, May every cemetery spirit assigned against you be cut off in Jesus name.

  • They are violent-(Mark 5 vs. 3), Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains

  • And spread the spirit of insanity (Mark 5 vs. 4), Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. I cast out every arrow of madness fired against you in Jesus name.

  • They afflict and oppress their victims(Mark 5 vs. 5). 6  And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.Let every spirits oppressing your life be roasted by fire in Jesus name.

  • They know and fear Jesus; and recognize his authority over them(Mark 5 vs. 6-7). But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him. I cast out every demon spirit in my life in Jesus name.

  • They have names. –(Mark 5 vs. 9)- I And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. Holy Spirit reveals the demons assigned against my life in Jesus name.

  • They possess people in hundreds and thousands. A person can be possessed by two thousand demons at the same time.- (Mark 5 vs.13)- 3 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

  • They bow in Jesus name. (Mark 5 vs. 13) And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.I arrest every demon spirit in my life in Jesus name.

  • They can come in and out of a person. (Mark 5 vs. 13) –And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the seaEvery windows, doors, and ladder demons are climbing to enter my life be blocked by the blood of Jesus.

  • They are destructive. They destroy their victims.(Mark 5 vs. 13) –And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the seaDemons assigned to destroy me; I destroy you in Jesus name.

  • They had to be cast out to another habitation(Mark 5 vs. 13)And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. Demon spirit oppressing my life, I cast you to the sea in Jesus name.
  • Deliverance returns the colourful destiny of a man. (Mark 5 vs. 15)1And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid

  • A person can be delivered from demons. (Mark 5 vs. 20) 20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.Deliver me o Lord from every demonic attack

Prayers

Deliver me o Lord, and restore my destiny.

Commentary on Mark 7: What does Jesus mean by they worship me in vain?

Posted on

Mark 7 vs. 7-8

7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’

8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.”

 Image result

  1. One of the lessons in Mark 7 is that anyone who follows Church doctrines rather than the commandments of God as contained in the Bible should not be regarded as a Christian.

  1. This implies that every doctrine of the Church should be based on the Bible. Any practice, rules of worship, or instructions passed by the Church that is contrary to the Bible is evidently satanic.

  1. It will be a tragedy to spend our whole life in Church worshiping God in error.

  1. It will be a tragedy to spend the whole life observing church doctrines and end up in hell.

  1. May we not worship God in vain in Jesus name.

  1. Don’t be tied to a Church simply because that is your family place of worship. You need to critically examine the doctrines of the Church to be sure they conform with the Scriptures, otherwise ran out of the Church today.

  1. Your salvation is more critical that emotional, family, ethnic, or tribal ties to any ungodly Church.
  2. The chapter also lists evils that defile a man as:
  • Evil thoughts
  • Adultery
  • Fornication
  • Murder
  • Thefts
  • Covetousness
  • Wickedness
  • Deceit
  • Lasciviousness
  • Evil Eye
  • Blasphemy
  • Pride
  • Foolishness

Prayers

  1. Power of God, cut me off from every satanic church in Jesus name.
  2. I shall not worship God in vain in Jesus name.
  3. I arrest my heart for Christ.

 Mark 9 vs. 17-29

17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech.  18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”

19 “O unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”   20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.Image result

21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”  24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up. 28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”

Commentary on Mark 2-Jesus saves

Posted on Updated on

Mark 2 vs. 17-

On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

  1. Several people live in self condemnation of their past sins and iniquities.
  2. Some people erroneously believe God will not forgive them because of the enormity of the sins they have committed in the past.
  3. The fact is that the whole essence of the ministry of Jesus is not to applaud /praise the righteous but to call sinners to repentance.
  4. Jesus upbraided the rich, condemned the Pharisees and Sadducees (who thought they are righteous) for practising legalistic righteousness, exposed the folly of the man that thought he had kept all the laws and commandments;  but associated with the poor, shielded the sinner (caught in the very act of adultery)  from being stoned, dined and wined with tax collectors, and sat with unbelievers.
  5. Jesus came to save to heal and to deliver.
  6. No matter the nature of your sins they will be washed away once you confess them, repent and plead for forgiveness by the blood of Jesus.
  7. Go ahead and call on the Lord Jesus to save you.
  8. As we start a new month, it is not enough to prophecy that this is a good month, heaven will be more pleased if you decide to walk with God this month and henceforth.

Prayers

  1. This month shall open your mouth and vomit my miracles, vomit my blessings, vomit my healing, vomit my jobs, vomit my marriage, vomit my husband, vomit my children vomit my visa etc in Jesus name
  2. This month shall arise and favour me in Jesus name
  3. Blood of Jesus fight for me this month
  4. Blood of Jesus save and deliver me from economic, business, marital, and spiritual recession.

Charateristics of modern day Pharisees and Sadducees

Commentary on Matthew 23: Are you a Pharisee?

By Babatope Babalobi +2348035897435 babalobi@yahoo.com

Matt 23 vs. 2-32 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.

  1. The Pharisees didn’t obey the laws they give. They gave the laws and broke the laws; Jesus came to teach people not only to believe the law, but practice the law.

Matt 23 vs. 4 – They tie up heavy loads and put them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.

  1. Pharisees increased the burdens of the people. But Jesus came as a burden bearer and yoke breaker.

Matthew 23 vs. 5: “Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long;

  1. Pharisees played to the gallery, sought self-glory and dressed flamboyantly to gain public attention. Jesus lived a life of piety, humility, and meekness while on earth.

Image result

Matthew 23 vs. 6: they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;

  1. Pharisees were attention seekers and reserved grand and special seats for themselves; while Jesus lived a life of lowliness.

Matthew 23 vs. 7 – they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them ‘Rabbi.’

  1. Pharisees liked to be publicly addressed with double barrel and high sounding titles, while Christ was meek while on earth.

Matthew 23 vs. 13 – “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!

  1. Pharisees were hypocrites; as they hindered the spread of the gospel why pretending to be children of God.

Matthew 23 vs.3 – So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach,

  1. Pharisees worshiped God with their lips, not their hearts, whereas Jesus taught that worshippers must worship God in the spirit and truth.

Matthew 23 vs.8 –  “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Master and you are all brothers

  1. Pharisees liked to be introduced with flattering titles- great men of God, anointed men of God, God’s general, etc.. Whereas Jesus did not carry any title in front of his name.

Matthew 23 vs. 9And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.

  1. Pharisees encouraged people to look unto them rather than unto God, they took the glory that belonged to God by encouraging people to call and treat them as ‘father’. Whereas Jesus said there is only one father, which is God.

(Matthew 23 vs.14) – You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.

  1. Pharisees oppressed, exploited and robbed the very people, including widows they are supposed to help.

Mathew 23 vs 14:  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

  1. Pharisees are pretentious, as they sought to be honored by saying long prayers in the streets.

Matthew 23 vs.17 – You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?

  1. Pharisees are foolish for they honoured the gold that decorated the temple, more than the temple; they honoured the cover of the bible more than the word written.

Matthew 23 vs.23 –  “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices — mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law — justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

  1. Pharisees were religious but not merciful. They faithfully paid tithes, but failed to practice the acts of faith, mercy, holiness, and righteousness. Jesus preached that we must not only pay tithes, but also practice the spirit of the law.

Matthew 23 vs.25 – “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

  1. Pharisees were full of iniquity and sin. They were physically beautiful but spiritually ugly.

Matthew 23 vs.10 – Nor are you to be called ‘teacher,’ for you have one Teacher, the Christ

  1. Pharisees made themselves lord and master over their congregation. Whereas Jesus preached that the leader should serve the followers.

Matthew 23 vs.1) – “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.

  1. Pharisees were great evangelists, but they ended up converting people into hell rather than heaven.

Matthew 23 vs.25 – “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

  1. Pharisees were materialistic, greedy, and fattened themselves through spiritual exploitation and manipulation.

(Matthew 23 vs.33) – “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell.

  1. Pharisees were cunny, deceitful, crafty, and dishonest. Jesus described them as vipers and serpents.

Matthew 23 vs.13-15 – 13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. 15 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.

  1. Pharisees gathered members not souls. They gathered a crowd not a kingdom. They doubled the hurdles, sinner needed to overcome to enter heaven.

Prayer

I cast out the Pharisee spirit in me in Jesus name

Commentary on Matthew 21 -Cleansing the temple

Posted on

By Babatope Babalobi +2348035897435 babalobi@yahoo.com

  1. One of the highlights of Matthew 21 is how Jesus chased out traders from the temple overthrowing their seats in the process.
  2. Just as the temple of God was desecrated in the times of Jesus, the contemporary church has also been largely desecrated.
  3. Several churches in the modern day, have been turned to business centers by commercial preachers who sell Holy water, Anointing oils, and Holy handkerchiefs to unwary members; and burden them with ceaseless requests for offerings, often diverted for personal aggrandizement.Image result
  4. In several places, spiritual traders have taken over the solemn office of Pastors, Priests, Bishops and Reverends; the gospel has been commercialized with a price tag for the highest bidder.
  5. In several places, money chargers in Bishops cloaks have taken over the pulpit, amassing fortunes in the name of Jesus and trading the souls of men for a crowd of spiritual customers looking for miracles like instant coffee.
  6. Just like in the days of Jesus, political plunderers of our common patrimony now occupy the front rows in churches, as the biggest thieves of public and private wealth are those honoured with the front seats.
  7. Like Jesus, we must rise up to physically and spiritually cast our spiritual traders and businesses men from our churches; we must overthrow them from their front seats, expose, and chase out our common criminals out of the church.
  8. We must pray to reinstate holiness, piety, humility, commonality, brotherliness, humanism, and righteousness to the church.

Deliverance by the blood of Jesus

Posted on

Psalm 27 vs. 7 – Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.

Psalm 121 vs. 1-2 – I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

  1. The Holy Spirit showed me a revelation on the deliverance power in the blood of Jesus few days ago.
  2. Somehow, I saw myself drowned to the neck level in a muddy ditch. I could not come out by myself. I hoped people passing by will rescue me, but they all looked at me inside the ditch and decided my situation was hopeless. I saw passersbys shook their heads and walked away in conclusion that I could not be rescued from the ditch.
  3. I also saw some of my close relations rushed to the scene. I was happy and hoped they would rescue me. My heart fainted when I also saw them retreated and walked away giving up hope on me, and believing I couldn’t be delivered from the ditch.
  4. Suddenly, I saw that I summoned courage in the muddy ditch where I was drowned and shouted ‘Blood of Jesus’
  5. Immediately after this shout, I was supernaturally pulled out of the ditch and saved from destruction.
  6. The Holy Spirit then gave me the message that when your friends and relations forsake you, when everyone has abandoned you, when all hopes for your deliverance and breakthrough is lost, Jesus will appear and rescue you if you cry to him.

Prayers

  • Blood of Jesus, save me.
  • Blood of Jesus, deliver me
  • Blood of Jesus, heal me.

Bible commentary: Matthew 1

Posted on Updated on

  By Babatope Babalobi: + 2348035897435 babalobi@yahoo.com

The theme of Matthew 1 is the genealogy and birth of Jesus Christ.

We can see that Jesus descended from a godly ancestry. He is the direct descendant of David and Abraham. May every ungodly ancestry in your lives or in your past be cut off in Jesus name

The Chapter also reflects the perfection of the Bible. All the ancestors of Jesus were recorded, 42 of them from Adam, even in those days when record keeping was poor. This shows the Bible is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit. See verses 1 and 42.

Jesus is also a direct descendant of King Solomon who was a son of an adulterous relationship between King David and Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife. See verse 6. These shows God’s infinite mercy. Once you confess and repent, God forgive your past sins, no matter the magnitude.

Joseph did not come together with his espoused wife -Mary, before they married. Verse 18. If Joseph and Mary had indulged in pre-marital sex, they would have lost their historical and spiritual roles in the destiny of Jesus, the Saviour.

Many people are involved in sexual relationship outside marriage these days either in form of premarital sex or extra marital sex. Youths, if you are engaged to be married, emulate the example of Joseph, avoid coming together until your wedding night.

Teenagers, flee from sexual lusts. Keep yourself. Zip up. The Holy Spirit shall strengthen you in Jesus name.

The Bible describes Joseph as a ‘Just’ man. Verse 19. Could you be described as a just man or woman? Are you a just husband, wife, or child? May Holy Spirit sharpen you to become a just person in Jesus name

The greatest lesson or message of the chapter lies in the names of son of God: He was revealed as Jesus in Matthew 1 vs. 21 – And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sinsand Emmanuel in Matthew 1 vs. 23 – Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

The lessons in Mathew 1 vs 21 is that Names are important. Jesus fulfilled his name as a Saviour, Lord, and Messiah. What does your name mean? What names did you inherit from your parents or ancestors? Do they glorify God or Satan? Cut off every evil ancestry in Jesus name.

Mary is described as a Virgin. Verse 23. Do you still treasure your virginity? Would Mary have been chosen as the ‘mother’ of Jesus if she was not a virgin. If you have been sexually active before outside marriage, you can still practice secondary abstinence. May blood of Jesus blot out your past sins

Joseph was obedient to the word of God, he followed the instruction of the Angel of God that directed him to take Mary as his wife and name the new born baby Jesus. Verse 24. Many people have lost their blessings through disobedience to divine instructions. May God kill your disobedience in Jesus name

Jesus means Saviour, from sins. There is no founder of any religion that was foretold or proclaimed himself as being able to save man from his sins.

Emmanuel means God with us. As such, Jesus is God in human flesh.

Jesus is the only man that ever lived that did not inherit the sin of Adam which brought destruction to the world; though he is a descendant of Abraham, his ‘biological’ father was the Holy Ghost through which he was conceived. Joseph was really his adopted father because he never knew Mary.

Jesus can save man from sin because he was not born a sinner. No other religion could save from sin because their founders were born of flesh and blood, inherited sin and are sinful themselves.

The key lesson of Mathew 1 is that anytime you call on Jesus, you are calling God and Saviour.

Mathew 4: Temptation of Jesus: lessons and commentary

  1. You need to feed on the word of God as you feed on food and drinks – Matthew 4 vs. 4 – But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
  2. Act with wisdom. Don’t act foolishly. Your decisions and lifestyles will determine your fate. Even Jesus was taken to safety when Herod wanted to kill him. Matthew 2 vs. 14-15; And Jesus departed from Nazareth in Galilee to Capernaum when He learnt of the arrest of John the Baptist – Matthew 4 vs. 13 – And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim
  3. Christians should avoid idolatry, such as making covenant with Satan in return for status, wealth and positions – Matthew 4 vs. 10 – Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Sermon: Love of money root of all evils

Posted on

1 Timothy 6 vs 6-11

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

What lessons can we learn from this scriptures?

  1. Success is knowing Christ. A successful man is the one that lives in holiness and is contended with what he has. (vs 6)
  2. Life without Christ is vain. All the wealth, status, positions, and money you are struggling to acquire, you will leave all behind the day you die. (vs7)
  3. Human needs are few. Once you have food to eat, clothes to wear, and a house to stay you should be happy and contended. (vs8)
  4. Love of money leads to sin. The desire to become rich leads people into sin (vs9).
  5. Love of money is a trap. Many fall into it as they struggle to possess it (vs9)
  6. Fools love money, Wiseman love Jesus (vs9).
  7. The love for money ends in bitterness of the soul, body and spirit (vs9)
  8. The love for money leads to destruction. (vs9)
  9. The love of money is the spirit of anti-Christ (vs9).
  10. All evils are caused by the love of money (vs10).
  11. Greed for money causes Christians to backslide. (vs10).
  12. The love for money ends in sorrows.
  13. Flee from greed, flee from the love for money.
  14. Run after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness.

Dealing with harvest destroyers

Posted on Updated on

Read Judges 6

Who are harvest destroyers?

  1. Harvest destroyers are enemies of the children of God – Judges 6 vs. 1 –And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
  2. Harvest destroyers are oppressors – Judges 6 vs.2 – And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.
  3. Harvest destroyers are armies of Satan – Judges 6 vs.3 – And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;
  4. Harvest destroyers are devourers of profits and wasters – Judges 6 vs. 5 –For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.
  5. Harvest destroyers turn wealth into poverty – Judges 6 vs. 6 – And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

Exodus 22 vs. 18 – Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live

witch

What is the meaning of this verse?

  1. God hates witchcraft.
  2. Practitioners of witchcraft are the enemies of God.
  3. Witchcraft is the work of the devil, otherwise God would not have decreed against them.
  4. God has given Christians a command to kill witchcraft.
  5. As long as we allow witchcraft to prosper, God’s plan will not be fulfilled in our lives, ministries, marriages, national life, and businesses.
  6. Spiritual warfare against witchcraft is a necessity and a Christian injunction
