Meaning: ‘do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers’-2 Corinthians 6:14:

2 Corinthians 6:14: Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

  1. God does not expect your best friend to be an unbeliever?
  2. God does not expect your business partners to be unbelievers?
  3. God does not expect you to get a husband or wife outside the Church.
  4. God does not expect your confidants to be non-Christians.
  5. While Christians should demonstrate the love of God to non-Christians, this passage simply means Christians should not have any close relationship with non-Christians?
  6. Iron sharpened IronProverbs 27 vs 17. Close fellowship and communion with an unbeliever will not improve your Christian growth and development. Your ideas, tastes, life styles, attractions, etc would be different.
  7. Do not be too close with anyone that does not believe in the God you believe.

There is a sin that is always pursuing you to catch up with you. The Bible does not only ask you to resist it but to practically run away from it. How could you overcome sexual sin?

  1. Give your life to Christ. Become born again.
  2. Attend a Bible believing Church where you are taught to live in righteousness and holiness. Dotn be idle, always be in the presence of God.
  3. Read your Bible daily.
  4. Pray and fast to mortify and kill your flesh.
  5. Be determined to make heaven. Be desperate to avoid sin that may lead you to hell. Flee from any person tempting you into a sexual relationship
  6. Let the fear of God rule you, make up your mind to walk with God.

Sermons: Should Christians celebrate Valentine day?

February 14, Valentine is here again. It is celebrated word wide yearly as Valentine’s days in memorial of Saint Valentine whose life was remarkable for its expression of love to fellow human beings.

 

Valentine’s Day has gained world wide prominence over the years and perhaps after the Christmas and Easter celebrations it is the next most celebrated occasions. Should Christians celebrate this day? May answer is Yes, and No.

 

Yes, if Christians intend to celebrate this day to express God’s love to one another. No, if such expression of love is in form of carnality, revellings and night clubbing.

 

There is nothing absolutely wrong in Christians celebrating a secular festival as long as this does not result in sinful activity. Some have argued that Saint Valentine’s Day has idolatrous origins and should be ignored by Christians. But the argument is that even December 25, a day celebrated as Christmas was originally marked as a pagan festival, but to the glory of God, it has been dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ.

 

Genesis 1 vs. 5: ‘And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day’

So, February 14, itself is not an evil day. All days are created by God for its glory. If you are celebrating Valentine’s Day, ensure you celebrate it to the glory of God.

 

  1. Dedicate the day to God, and ask the Holy Spirit how you should celebrate it.
  2. Make new friends in your working places and schools.
  3. Appreciate your old friends by sending them gifts.
  4. Appreciate your parents and those that have helped you in one way or the other in life, be sending notes or gifts.
  5. If you need to go for a drink or food, ensure you are in good company and your safety is not compromised.
  6. Most importantly, refrain from any associations or acts that may cause you to sin. Either by what you drink, what you see, or where you go. Valentine’s Day is not meant for illicit sex.
  7. Discuss this over with your friend that you do not intend to have sexual relationship with him on this day and watch where you go, and whom you are with alone.
  8. Watch out for date raping. Don’t go out with anyone you do not trust, and if you must go out with a single watch where you go.
  9. Avoid environments that promote ungodliness. This includes night clubs, discos, and sex shows.
  10. The best place to spend Valentine’s Day is the presence of God. God is the greatest Valentine who gave us his only begotten son for our salvation. Arrange to be in the presence of God- either Church or fellowship and thank God for his love on you.
  11. If you do not have anyone as a Valentine, remember God is the greatest Valentine you can ever have. He is the greatest lover. Pour you love on him, with songs of thanksgiving.

 

Bible Passage on Is Masturbation a Sin?

Masturbation is the act of arousing yourself sexually until you achieve sexual orgasm, and in men, it culminates in spilling the semen. Masturbation can either be by self, or involved another person of same sex most often.
Several years ago, a middle age woman who was a member of my local church confided in me that she masturbates and sees nothing wrong with this.
She was separated from her husband and she believed that masturbation was the most appropriate means of relieving her sexual urges instead of indulging in fornication. She told me that ‘wasn’t it better she masturbates than indulging in illicit sex?’ She also requested me to show her biblical verses that condemn the act of masturbation.
Several people like this woman indulge in masturbation; in some cases it becomes addictive that it becomes a passion like taking cigarettes. While some people masturbates in the secrets of there rooms, others have turned it into a game. Masturbation is now a common sight in several romance chat rooms.
But the big question remains: Is masturbation an immoral act? What does the Bible say about it? The answer I gave the woman above was that the Bible does not clearly mention or condemn ‘masturbation’ is, but this does not justify it.
I told her that that fact that she is separated from her husband is not any excuse for her to indulge in masturbation. What the Bible preaches is self control, therefore it is either she is reconciled to her husband or she exercises self control over her sexual urges.
Over the years since my discussion with this woman, I have come to empathize with her. It is quite normal for adult especially some one that was once involved in an active sexual relationship to have strong sexual desires.
An attempt to meet these sexual desires when you are distanced from your spouse often leads to masturbation. Of course there are also unmarried youths (who are supposed to be still chaste and virgins) that are involved in masturbation.
For the married, the key word we need to consider is ‘self control’. Masturbation may not be expressly described as a sin in the Bible, but it portrays our inability to control our bodily passions, whereas God expects us to have self control. More so, masturbation is an act of uncleanness, which will defile our bodies the temple of God.
How can you stop masturbating? My recommendation is by self will. God has given every one the self will to decide on what to do. No matter how hard pressed you are sexually, you still have an inner will to control your sexual desire if not now but the next. So if you desire to stop masturbating, then you have to develop an inner will.
I must confess that I have also been tempted to masturbate several times when away from my wife. How do I overcome this desire? First, I admit to myself that sex is a natural desire, but I tell myself that it is better to satisfy myself sexually with my wife.
I indulge in spiritual exercises like fasting and praying in the spirit to uplift my spirit mind, and cut off bodily desires. I always notice that anytime I am high in the spirit I do not have the feeling to masturbate. But once my prayer or fasting life is down, and then the urge and feeling

Masturbation is a sign that your spiritual battery is down and you can overcome it through self will and God’s help.

Bible Scripture on is masturbation a sin?

Know ye not that YE ARE the temple of God, and that THE SPIRIT OF GOD dwelleth in you? (1 Corintihians 3:16)

 

The big question is that does God wants us to masturbate? He created sexual organs male and female for both opposite sexes to enjoy a sexual fellowship. So masturbation is really a human invention to satisfy sexual lusts.

 

When masturbation involves two people of same sex in or outside marriage it becomes a form of sexual perversion that cannot be excused on any grounds.

 

Even if it involves only one person attempting to satisfy a sexual desire, the fact is that masturbation always leads to other forms of sexual perversion.

 

If you are masturbating often, because your spouse is not around, your mind will soon tell you to get a sexual partner. As it makes some ‘sense’ to get a sexual partner instead masturbating.

So it is better never to start something that will lead you to deeper sin.

 

Sex is biblically meant to be enjoyed between a man and a woman in a legal marriage. Any other form of sexual satisfaction is unbiblical and leads to sin

I want to stop masturbation

  • The first and most important thing is your self will and determination. You must be willing to come out of masturbation and lead a normal sexual life in a marriage. So settle it in your mind and develop a strong desire to quit masturbation and other sex sins.
  • You may need to change your friends. Most people are introduced into masturbation by friends and peers. If your friends are into masturbation, you need to drop them in order to drop their habits.
  • The Bible says evil communications corrupts good morals. Censor your ears and eyes, and watch what your look or listen to. If you are fond of listening to music or films that are full of sexual overtones, then the spirit of sex will be influencing and controlling your mind.
  • Feed your spirit. Every sexual act feeds the body. The spirit feeds on the word of God while the body feeds on carnal desires. If you on fire spiritually, you are likely to think more of spiritual things rather than carnal things. Read the Bible, fast and pray. Fellowship with believers.
  • Be attached with your spouse. The Bible says it is better to get married than to engage in fornication. If you are a person that has a large sexual appetite, then it is better you get married and always ensure your nature of job does not separate you from your spouse for a long time.
  • Expose your weaknesses. Evil thrives in secrecy. Share your sexual weaknesses with your Parents, Guardians, Counselors and Church leaders and ask them to pray for you.

How should I dress to work?

3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

 

4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price

 

Does the Bible oppose wearing of Jewelers or putting on hair stlyes? The answer is No. What the Bible teaches in all the passages that dwells on Christian clothing is modesty.

 

 

This simply means what should wear should glorify God. What you wear on your head or wrist should not beautify you and glorify God. The Bible also teaches that you should place more emphasis on your inner character than you outer dressing.

 

God, more valuable than expensive and fashionable clothing or dressing.But this is not to say that the Bible opposes wearing of Jewelers, hair styles or dressing. If you look at 1 Peter verse 3 quoted above, the Bible talks about three things -hair dos, wearing of golden Jewelers, and

  

If we study the passage quoted above, we see the Bible talks about the need for Christian wives to be chaste, meek, quite and incorruptible. The word of God states that this is more important that the paraphernalia of any cloth you may be wearing.

 

So as a Christian woman, you should spend more time in developing your spirit than your body. You should spend more time in building your character to be Christ like than in building an expansive ward robe. 

 

Adhering to Chrisitan virtues is priceless in the sight of clothing.  If we interpret the scriptures in 1 Peter 1-3 that the Bible is against wearing of Jewelers and Hair dos, then we must also extend this to wearing of apparels, that is also mentioned in the passage. Of course this will be irrational and illogical.

The problem is that many Christian ladies have abused the liberty that the Bible grants in this context and are wearing Jewelers that are distractive, hair dos that are Jezebelic and clothing that are too revealing.

 

I guess it is for this reason that some Churches completely ban their members from wearing Jewelers, fashionable hair stlyes, and revealing clothing.

I believe every woman has to decide for herself what is right and proper to wear based on the scriptural teachings of modesty. Just let the Spirit of God to advice you whether it is proper for you to wear that Jeweler, hair do or clothing.

Perhaps the most famous is David’s sin with Bathsheba. His adultery with Bathsheba and murder of her husband produced family strife, the death of his son and opportunities for enemies to blaspheme God (2 Samuel 11-12).

Curses of illicit sex

Sex sin can bring a curse on you, your partner and/or your children.

Sex sin gives Satan a right to oppress us and our descendants through curses (see generational curses). The scriptural basis for generational curses is found in Exodus 34:6-7 and several other passages.

Promiscuity, adultery, divorce, infertility, frigidity and other reproductive problems can sometimes be traced to curses arising from sexual sin (Numbers 5:11-31).

Deliverance from sexual addiction

Practicing sin forms a stronghold for evil in our lives. When we repeatedly sin, we give evil an increasingly protected place in our lives.

The more we give in to our sinful lusts, the more they have control over us. Paul described this as slavery to sin in Romans 6:16.

Sexual strongholds are particularly powerful, since they involve our body, soul and spirit. Thankfully, Jesus provided the means for us to break out of any stronghold and live for God in righteousness.

Consequences of Sexual Sin

 

Sexual sin produces consequences that will affect us deeply. Viewing porn is a form of sex sin committed through lust and idolatry. If you are looking at pornography, you are susceptible to the same consequences that result from other forms of sexual sin.

 

The consequences may not be easily absolved, but God will forgive you of your sin through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

 

Whether you have already sinned, or are thinking about doing so, the point here is to encourage you not to sin.

Your body is God’s temple

(1 Corinthians 6:17).

Sex sin defiles your body and damages its ability to fulfill God’s purposes. Sex sin is unique in that we commit it against our own bodies Our bodies function as temples of God’s Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:12-20).

When we use our body for sex sin, we dishonor our body and defile God’s temple. We’re also defiling the people that we are sinning with. Our lack of respect for the body (and for God) damages our relationship with God.

Sex sin grieves God’s Spirit. Any sin we practice will grieve God’s Spirit (Ephesians 4:31). It puts out the “fire” of the Holy Spirit in our life (1 Thessalonians 5:19).

The more we quench God’s Spirit, the less we will be inclined to live a changed life in righteousness.

Am I born a Gay?

God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that a person becomes a homosexual because of sin (Romans 1:24-27), and ultimately because of their own choice.

A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person choosing to sin by giving into their sinful desires.

If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger / rage, does that make it right for then to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true for homosexuality.

Bible verses on homosexuality?

Homosexuality is one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God.

 

According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc.

 

God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Is homosexuality a sin?

The Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). Romans 1:26-27 teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God.

When a person continues in sin and disbelief, the Bible tells us that God “gives them over” to even more wicked and depraved sin in order to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that homosexual “offenders” will not inherit the kingdom of God.  Source:

Premarital sex: Should I remain a Virgin?

Songs of Solomon 8:8-10 record a conversation between a teenage girl and her older brothers on the virtue of chastity and the vice of promiscuity;

 

            “We have a little sister, and she has no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she is spoken for. If she is a wall, we will build upon her a battlement of silver and if she is a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar”.

A wall is built to deliberately fence out intruders and protect the occupants. A door is an entrance through which any person could enter. A wall keeps out, a door lets in.

In the conversation, the brothers watched over the life of their teenage sister. They honor her for successfully keeping her chastity by resisting unworthy men who came calling to defile her in the days of her youth. If she tended to yield and give in to promiscuity, they rally round to protect and strengthen the resolve for good (verse 9).

“I am a wall…” proudly declares the Shulamite girl. Thank God the Shulamite was a wall. For maintaining her chastity and purity to the maturity of adulthood, she became in the eyes of he who married her, a pleasure, as one who finds peace and contentment (verse 10).

A chaste girl is a garden enclosed, a private spring, a fountain closed to others (S.O.S. 4:12). An immoral one is like a vineyard whose hedges, are broken down, so that all who pass by the way pluck for fruits, including boars and wild beasts (Ps. 80:12-13). Like a beautiful woman without self control, a pearled sow (Pro. 11:22).

What are you dear sister: a wall or a door, a private spring or a public river?  And you brother, do you aspire to fence in and protect our honorable sisters, or you strive to break the wall, enter the open door or pollute the waters?

“…He that breaks through a wall, a serpent shall bite” (Ecc. 10:8). Amen.

How to avoid Strange Women
Be attached to God and the spirit through fellowship with the brethren and reading the Bible. The Holy Spirit will always warn you if you are about to take a wrong step. Faith comes by hearing the word of God.

Avoid situations and environments that influence you to strange relationships. These include worldly parties, pubs, and ungodly social gatherings.

Be choosy in the type of friends you maintain. Many have been influenced into bad habits under peer pressure. If all your friends are having an affair or a polygamist, then you are likely to end up being one.

Don’t keep evil secrets. Expose and flee from any appearance of evil. Don’t encourage yourself in ungodly relationships. Immediately you notice undue favours from the opposite sex, inform people around.

Strange women do not like their affairs to be known to people. If you also notice that you are being troubled by the spirit of lust, fast and pray and encourage the brethren to pray for you.

Lastly, if you naturally develop an attraction for a strange woman, don’t keep it secret, otherwise it will become depend. Inform good counselors about this, and they will keep watch over you to ensure you are not consumed by passion. Evil thrives in secrecy.

Should I engage in premarital sex?

Sex sin can cause emotional confusion. Sex creates emotional bonds (“soul ties”) with our sex partner.

These bonds will vary in strength depending on the relationship. God intended this emotional bond for marriage partners. When we bond with people other than our spouse through sex, emotional confusion results.

This confusion can manifest in many ways. Here are some examples:

* Recurring dreams and/or thoughts about former lovers

* Inability to achieve emotional intimacy with spouse

* Regret or bitterness toward people who hurt us in past relationships

* Comparing our spouse with former lovers in sexual performance

* Distorted understanding of true love (corrupted by lust or other selfishness)

* Increased promiscuity, in attempt to find true intimacy and love

Sex and unwanted pregnacies

Sex sin can produce unloved or unwanted children.

Sexual sin has helped devalue human life such that human babies are discarded as rubbish on an altar of convenience, pleasure and rebellion (40 million aborted since the 1960’s).

Children born through sex sin may grow up in homes where a loving father and/or mother are absent.

Their brokenness will likely be echoed through the sexual choices they make down the road, impacting generations to come.

Glorify God In Your Body
For a Christian the bottom line is this: “glorify God in your body” 1 Cor 6:20. Adultery and fornication do not glorify God. Instead they are a reproach to his name. For Christians it is inconsistent to be united with Christ in spirit, but then to be united with a harlot in flesh.

Uniting with a harlot breaks spiritual fellowship with Christ. Again, we cannot lose our salvation but our fellowship can be impaired by indulging the flesh.

Christians should see their spiritual intimacy with Christ as being vastly superior to any physical intimacy they might have with a harlot. “But he that is joined to the Lord is one spirit”.

Just as a man and wife “become one flesh”, those who are Christ’s “become one spirit” with him. It’s not a good bargain to trade in spiritual oneness with Christ for a harlot. It is much more excellent to be joined to Christ.

The sin of adultery

Adultery has to do with violation of the marriage covenant. It is sex between a married person and another person with whom they are not married. The seventh commandment prohibited it. “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Under Mosaic Law, when a couple was caught in the act of adultery, both parties were to be killed. (Deut 22:22).

Of course this punishment relates only to the nation of Israel under the Old Testament. However the moral principle still applies today.

But Jesus raised the bar when he taught his disciples: “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” Matt 5:27-28.

Jesus is saying that it is a sin to even look at a woman to lust after her. The sin is committed in one’s heart. Wanton lust places the heart in the same sinful condition as actually doing the act. God’s design was that the husband and wife should become “one flesh,” each being held sacred to the other. Jesus taught the “one flesh” principle of marraige.

Matthew 19:3-4: Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

Let’s get the basics here. ONE man and ONE woman. The TWO become one flesh. So the spiritual principle is that two will become one flesh. Not the three, four or more will become one flesh.

Also notice that Jesus said that he created them “male and female”, not male and male or female and female. There is no such thing as same sex marriage. He created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!. However for now we can say that by Jesus’ definition of marriage, that is “male and female”, homosexual marriage does not exist. In general homosexuality is a sin that falls under the categories of adultery or fornication which are the subjects of this essay.

As a side note Jesus also discouraged divorce in these verses. “Let man not separate”. However in Matt 5:32 he made an exception for when there is fornication. A full explanation of divorce in the Bible is beyond the scope of this article. The main thing to remember here is that the Bible generally discourages divorce except in certain cases.

Very Important! Adultery is not defined by your own personal moral standards. Instead, it is defined by God’s absolute law.

God is sovereign and we are not. For example, if both parties of a couple mutually consent to a sexual relationship with some other 3rd party, that does not make it OK with God. It is still a sin. How do I know? I checked with The Manufacturer. He wrote it in his “Owner’s Manual”, the Bible.

Just because many people in the world have forgotten God’s moral law, it does not mean that he has repealed it. God is not taking an opinion poll on this subject and he is not going to ask us all to vote on it. God is still in charge.

The apostle Paul listed sins of those who will not inherit the kingdom of God. The sins of adultery and fornication were right at the top of the list: 

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?
