Scriptures on tithes and tithing

 

  1.   1. 2 Chronicles 31:4-5– He ordered the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of the LORD. As soon as the order went out, the Israelites generously gave the firstfruits of their grain, new wine, olive oil and honey and all that the fields produced. They brought a great amount, a tithe of everything.

Hebrews 7-Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people—that is, from their fellow Israelites—even though they also are descended from Abraham.This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. And without doubt the lesser is blessed by the greater. In the one case, the tenth is collected by people who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living. One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, 10 because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? 12 For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also.

 

What is tithing?

 

  1. Tithes is paying 10% of all income.

 

  1. In the old testament three types of tithes are mentioned, though the present day church only emphasises only one of the three.

 

  1. The three types of tithes are:
  2. The Levitical or sacred tithe meant for servants of God-Numbers 18:21-“I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting.
  3. The feast tithe that is supposed to be eaten by the tither-Deuteronomy 14:22–Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year. 23 Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice. 27 And do not neglect the Levites living in your towns, for they have no allotment or inheritance of their own.

 

  1. The poor tithe that is supposed to be given to strangers, orphas, widows and the port every three years. Deuteronomy 14: 28At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

 

Origin of Tithing

  1. God separated one of the twelve tribes of Israel to serve Him.
  2. He commanded that no inheritance of the land of Canaan should be given to the tribe.
  3. Their inheritance was to be tenth of the income of the other 11 tribes.
  4. The tribe of Levites were servants of the Lord, who interceded on behalf of the people and worshipped God day and night
  5. They were full time workers in the Sanctuary, and tithes were to be their income.
  6. God instituted tithing in the Old Testament as a reward for Levites who are on full time service in the tabernacle.
  7. Bible also states that at a point when the people stopped paying tithes, the Levites abandoned their service to God
  8. But before God instituted tithing, some Bible characters paid tithe by faith, as a covenant, and as an offering to God
  9. Genesis 14 vs. 20 –And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.-Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek the king of Salem even before tithing became a rule for Israelites.
  10. If Abraham paid tithes before the coming of law, all Christians desiring Abrahamic blessings should continue to pay tithes after the law.
  11. In Genesis 28 vs 22, Jacob was embarking on a journey and vowed to give Him a tenth of his wealth to God as a mark of honour- Genesis 28 vs. 20-22And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
  12. In the New testament, tithing is mentioned about four times. Jesus did not denounce tithing, but said religiosity of tithing by the Pharisees was not enough, but also advised them to practice mercy and righteousness
  13. According to Jesus mercy and righteousness is more important than tithing.
  14. The early disciples of God did more than tithing, they were bringing all their income to the feet of the Apostles.
  15. Tithing is also mentioned in Hebrews which referred to the blessing received by Abraham resulting from the tithe he gave to the Priest Melchizedek and illustrates the superiority of Melchizedek and Jesus Christ over the Levitical priesthood.
  16. Of note the passage also notes ‘when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also” (verse 12). which means tithes or above tithing should not be preached or given as a compulsory religious doctrinaire obligation, but voluntarily, cheerfully from the hearts of Christians.
  17. New testament Christianity does not cancel tithing but cancels its religious legalism, replacing it with voluntary act of honouring God and supporting the expansion of the Kingdom with sacrificial offerings even above your tithes (10% of your income) or according to your best ability.
  1. In the New testament, the early Christians paid more than tithes, and the Apostles shared all these with the brethren according to every one’s need.

 

 

Facts about Tithing

  13. Levitical tithe is ten percent of the income of congregation.
  14. It is a biblical principle
  1. Tithes support the work of God.
  2. By the Biblical definition of Levites, tithe is meant for Levites who are all full-time servants of God
  3. Anyone that qualifies as a Levite deserves to collect tithes this include Pastors, Evangelists, Missionaries etc
  1. Tithes supplies the material needs of the church and Ministers of God.
  2. Tithes releases God’s blessing.
  3. Provokes answered prayers.
  4. Arrest spiritual robbers.
  5. Prevents unexplainable losses.
  6. Brings profits to the work of your hands.
  7. Makes you the joy of the earth.
  8. Makes you a blessing.
  9. Breaks curses.
  10. Builds a divine hedge around you.
  11. Tithes honours the Lord, just as payment of taxes honours secular government.
  12. If you are yet to start paying tithe, you are yet to recognise God as the source of your blessings
  13. Tithing builds a personal relationship with God.
  14. The underlying principle of giving to God, is an expression of love towards God
  15. No Christian can run away from tithing
  16. If you don’t give your tithe to a Christian Ministry, Satan will collect it from you through losses, accidents, sicknesses, etc.

 

Is tithing compulsory?

Genesis 28 vs. 20-22 – And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

 

  1. Jacob voluntarily vowed to God that he will give God a tenth of his income.
  2. This incidence happened even before God requested the Israelites to give the Levites a tenth of their increase.
  3. If you want to have a serious relationship with God then, you must achieve the understanding Jacob had. Jacob did not wait for a law before he became a tither.

 

How do I pay my tithes?

Deuteronomy 14:25 – Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

  1. In the Old Testament, the Israelites pay tithes from the increase of their crops, because they were mainly farmers
  2. In the contemporary world, Christians should monetize their tithes in line with the Scriptures quoted above.
  3. Tithes should not be paid only from earned income, but a financial increase coming to us.
  4. Tithes should be paid from legitimate income, not illegitimate or stolen income.
  5. You are normally expected to pay your tithes where you are being blessed spiritually which is your local church where you fellowship and/or working as a servant of God.
  6. You may also wish to pay your tithes to any Christian ministry involved in the expansion of the Gospel and soul winning.
  7. Jesus through the parable of the sower in Matthew 13 increases our understanding that is wise to sow in a fertile ground, and some grounds may be more fertile than others; as such where you decide to pay your tithes matters. It is therefore advisable to give your tithe in a fertile ground producing abundant souls for the kingdom of God.
  8. Don’t forget that there is also an unpreached tithe for the window which you are supposed to pay every three years, if we are to strictly follow the old testament law (Deuteronomy 14:22) which has been partially cancelled by new testament Hebrews 7 vs 4-12, all your tithes every three years ( which could be estimated to be 1/3 of your annual types) should be given to strangers, fatherless, orphans, widows, and the poor.
  9. In summary, Christians are supposed to pay beyond tithes voluntarily and sacrificially, and the managers of the tithes are supposed to use this to meet not only the needs of the clergy, pastors, or priests, but other full time workers in the church, as well as operational and running costs of the church or ministry, needs of the underprivileged, the poor, homeless, widows, orphans,  and to generally support the activities of the congregation.
  10. This is what the scriptures support.

How to please God

“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God” (Heb 11:5).

Believers can be categorized according to their attitude towards God and His work into three broad groups: God-pleasers, men-pleasers and self-pleasers. Heaven issues testimonials to God-pleasers. Every God-pleaser gets a certificate but there are different grades.

Revelation 4:11 says, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created”. You exist to please Him. The sole purpose for which God created you is to please Him. Anytime you displease Him, you negate your purpose of existence. You cannot live without pleasing God. Those who are not pleasing God daily are barely existing, not living. They cannot access the abundant life He has made available to us (Jn 10:10).

If you have been born again, it is for you to please Him. Your life should revolve around Him. Some believers try to separate business from the Christian faith. You will hear them say, ‘Business is business. Leave God out of this matter. When we get back to church, we will put on our moral garb’. The day you received Jesus into your heart, you lost the right to live for yourself or to please yourself. “For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me” (Rom 15:3).

Today’s reading clearly says believers should not focus on pleasing themselves. When the Lord Jesus Christ was here on earth, He too lost His right to please Himself. His focus was God. He set God at His right hand and daily strove to please Him. What matters is not what you think, your opinions, convenience or personal goals, but that of the One who has called, saved and commissioned you as His soldier (2 Tim 2:4). If you seek personal convenience and ambition to the detriment of the Kingdom, you cannot please God.

Self-pleasers idolize themselves. They are number one. God and anyone else can come after. If you find it difficult to pay your tithes regularly, or to obey God on matters that appear to take much from you, it is because you are serving yourself. You are your god. Repent and release everything to the King of kings today.

If you live for yourself, you will have no future beyond earth. If you live for Christ, you will end up with Him.

My tomorrow is greater than today

“The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts” (Hag 2:9).

Whatever you are today, thank God: but the best is yet to come. As long as you remain in the Lord, your tomorrow will be better than today, because it is His nature to reserve the best for the last. At the marriage in Cana, Galilee, the Lord made this evident to everyone especially the chairman of the gathering.

The man said it is usual for people to give their best wine at the beginning and bring out the worst afterwards; but he was shocked that the best wine was brought after the worst (Jn 2:1-11). Whatever people think they have seen in you, they have seen nothing yet. Your best is yet to be revealed. Your best is coming out and there is nothing any body or demon can do about it, as long as you cooperate with the Lord Jesus Christ.

A look through scriptures confirms this nature of God. For instance, concerning covenants, the New Covenant was released as a better version of the old. Hebrews 8:6 says, “But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises”. Hebrews 8:6-7 says the first covenant was faulty hence the need for the second. God always keeps the best for the end.

One lesson here is that if God has found you to do a particular assignment for Him, do it with all your heart and make maximum profit for Him. Never give Him an opportunity to replace you because if you do, He will equip your replacement better than He equipped you, and the job will be better done than how you did it. Judas Iscariot had the opportunity of being an apostle of Jesus.

When he messed up, his replacement – Paul, achieved so much more. Although Judas was educated, Paul was far more; he even had a doctorate in law. He was mightily used of God to turn the world upside down for Jesus – a feat that none of the other apostles could achieve. Ask God not to replace you. Ask for grace to be faithful to the end. It is a dangerous thing to be dumped by the Most High. The Lord will not dump you. You will fulfil His purpose for your life in Jesus’ Name.

Father, let me never do what would make You to replace me.

Jesus as wonderful counselor

Isaiah 9:6 calls Jesus the Wonderful. Another reason He is so named is because there are certain situations or events that ordinary strength, understanding or ability cannot contain. At such a time, He can bring to bear His infinite supernatural strength, wisdom and ability. In that situation which appears above your understanding or ability, the Wonderful will enter in and give you beyond your heart’s desire in Jesus’ Name.

In Daniel 6 , the whole world thought an end had come for Daniel. That night, those behind the plot were celebrating their feat in getting the king to do what he never wanted done. To them, Daniel’s relevance had ended that night. But unknown to them, Daniel communicated with the Wonderful.

By the following morning, the world awoke with open mouths to see Daniel alive. Not only that, those who plotted against Daniel became food for the lions. Anyone who is plotting your fall shall encounter the Wonderful today and end up in the belly of lions.

Another name the Lord is called in Isaiah 9:6 is Counsellor. A counsellor is the one you go to when you do not know what to do next. Counselling is very important in the life of every believer. Counselling may be required before every crucial decision is made. The quality of decisions you make will be determined by the strength of advice received.

The quality of the advice you receive is a function of the experience and training of your adviser. There are good and bad counsels. Psalm 1:1-3 forbids believers from receiving counsel from unbelievers. If you make an unbeliever your adviser, he may cause you to go astray in the name of advising you. Psalm 106:43 says whenever you take advice contrary to God’s Word, you provoke God to work against you.

For instance, when you are advised to go into premarital sex with your partner in order to test her ability to bear children and you take it, you violate God’s Word that says, ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery’. As a consequence of this, you will be humbled by God’s judgement. Yet, Proverbs 20:18 says good counsels are the building blocks of any successful plan.

In fact, without it you may not succeed in that plan, project or assignment ( Prov 11:14). Do you know you require counselling to succeed in business, academics, ministry, family, career, etc.? This is why you need to know Jesus as The Counsellor. To what extent has He revealed Himself to you as the Counsellor?

Until you cut off from ungodly counsels and counsellors, you may never experience Jesus as the Counsellor.

What is spiritual covering and authority?

When one’s day of remembrance comes, several benefits follow. In Acts 9:36-42, the good deeds of Dorcas caused her to be remembered after a particular sickness snuffed out the life in her. But when Heaven remembered her good deeds, life returned to her lifeless body. Do you know that you can sow into God’s Kingdom and members of that Kingdom and thereby prevent death or authorize your resurrection after death?

Keep sowing into the lives of fellow believers. Meet their needs. Put laughter in their mouths. Such deeds are for yourself because someday, they will speak for you. Apart from resurrection, when you are remembered, floods dry up and the beauty that was covered is revealed. This was Noah’s experience in Genesis 8:1-2. When God remembers you, the flood that swept you off your feet will dry up.

In the Name of Jesus Christ, every flood that is working against your stability will dry up now. Your glory, beauty and star that have been covered for so long shall suddenly, come to lime light from today. It is your day of remembrance.

In Genesis 19:27-29 when God remembered Abraham, He organized Lot’s deliverance from an inferno that would have roasted him alive. When God remembers you, your distant relatives will benefit from divine covering and protection. If members of your immediate or extended family are falling victims of armed robbers, fire, death and destruction, it could be because God has not remembered you. As long as God remembers you, your loved ones will surely benefit from it.

This goes to show that a believer’s cover can extend far and wide. If you live right before God and He remembers you, if your relative in the USA or Europe or any part of the world is about to become a victim of satanic destructive plans, God will intervene. A believer’s spiritual cover is something very powerful. If the wife is a believer but the husband is not, the wife’s cover will shelter her husband and children and vice versa (1 Cor 7:14).

By extension, as a pastor, your spiritual cover can affect distant relatives of members of your church. Ensure you keep away from sin so that that cover is retained. How are your relatives benefiting from divine coverage?

Father, as You remember me today, intervene in the lives of all my loved ones at home and abroad.

How to turn your fears into faith

Memorise: “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them” (Mk 11:24)

Apart from changing people and turning negative circumstances around, prayer can also change doubt to trust, fear into faith. You are either a doubter or a believer. You either operate by faith or fear. Every doubter is a potential believer. If you can pray, the worst doubter can become the strongest believer. Doubting Thomas is a case in point (Jn 20:24-29). He doubted the resurrection of Christ.

Even after the other disciples confirmed that the Lord truly visited them in his absence, he told them: ‘Except I see His nail pierced hands and sword pierced side, and put my finger through them, I will not believe!’ Later, Jesus visited them again and addressed his unbelief. From that time he resolved to show the world that he was a believer.

Years later, Thomas went to India and was used mightily in signs and wonders. He had turned into a believing Thomas! Is there someone who is doubting your ability to perform? Is someone finding it hard to trust you? You can turn it around by tarrying on your knees in prayer. If you can pay that price in your prayer closet, the same doubter will become your staunchest fan, supporter and heralder.

According to our reading today, prayer can change the place and power of obstacles in our way. God does not change but mountains do, when brought in contact with the appropriate change agent – prayer. In moving any mountain, you must be specific, or else its either all mountains will respond to your call, or none will.

Also, before you take on a mountain standing in your way, you must believe that its time is up, and that it has to move. Repeating the same prayer each day may be an evidence of lack of faith. If you believe that obstacles will move, all you need do is to package the prayer request, and deliver it backed with relevant scriptures only once. That is the prayer seed.

Thereafter, water the seed regularly with thanksgiving. Each time you water that seed with praises and thanksgiving, you make God a debtor. The more you do so, the more God is compelled to grant your request. You can be sure that the One who says ‘Owe no man’ will by no means break His Word. If you follow this principle and it is like it is not working, persist. It could be that you are going through a wilderness experience.

Ask God to turn every doubting Thomas in your family and church into great believers. Also ask that persecutors of the church become the Pauls of our generation.

Revival prayer

1 Timothy 6 vs 6-11But godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Luke 12 vs. 15, 21 –  15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.  21So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God

  1. The spirit of murmuring is an abomination before God
  2. The spirit of complaining pushes away blessings
  3. Complains stir up the anger of God. Thank God for what you have and see Him do more.
  4. Stop complaining about your wife. If you are married, and your wife cannot satisfied you, then 1000 women cannot satisfy you. If you are in doubt read the story of Solomon. Be contended and be satisfied with your wife.
  5. Stop complaining about your husband. There is no perfect husband. There are a lot of women there looking for a man to marry. Pray and ask God to perfect any imperfections in your husbands life in Jesus name
  6. Stop complaining about your marriage. You can not walk in and out of marriage. Marriage is not meat pie that you can taste and throw away if its not delicious.
  7. No marriage is made in heaven. There are a lot of people out there praying for a marriage. You are married and complaining instead of praying to God to perfect your marriage in Jesus name
  8. There is no end to accumulating money, several people have enough money to meet basic needs, but are not satisfied. Greed is acquiring what you don’t need.
  9. Some people have one or two houses already but they are not happy because they yet to build a house in the capital cities of the world. They forget the fact that no man sleeps in two rooms at the same time. If you have a roof over your head be contended.
  10. EVEN IF YOU ARE YET TO BUILD A HOUSE, THANK GOD FOR WHERE YOU ARE TODAY. THAT YOU ARE ALIVE …THERE IS NO LANDLORD IN THE GRAVE
  11. THERE IS NO END TO BUILDING HOUSES…YOU BUILD ONE WHERE YOU ARE WORKING NEXT THEY WILL TELL YOU TO BUILD ONE IN THE VILLAGE NEXT THEY WILL TELL YOU TO BUILD FOR YOUR CHILDREN NEXT THEY WILL TELL YOU TO BUILD TO RENT NEXT TO BUILD OR BUY  IN LONDON  NEW YORK ETC………YOU  DONT NEED MORE THAN A ROOM TO SLEEP
  12. Covetousness is the spirit of greed. Many ladies have very good clothes and shoes that they have not worn in a year in a year in their wardrobes yet they complain that they don’t have the latest fashion. Keep functional clothes and shoes and give the others away to the needy.
  1. Covetousness is a compulsive desire for the latest trends, desiring to acquire every new technology and gadgets while the old ones in your house are largely utilized.
  2. Many people have ONE OR TWO TVs in their houses but complain they cannot buy the latest TV brand. Be contended with what you have
  3. Many people have a functional smart phone, but are not happy that they cannot afford the latest Samsung Galaxy S8. Not knowing that after purchasing Samsung Galaxy S8, another edition S9, S10 will be produced. Be contended
  1. Some people have good second hand cars but they are envious of their neighbour riding brand new cars; forgetting the fact that the race of life is run individually. Be contended with the car you can buy legitimately.
  2. Some people are riding 2016 edition of a tech, but they are no longer excited with the tech. again  because 2017 edition has just been produced. They have forgotten that you can never catch up with technology. Be contended with what you have and thank God for it.
  3. A man may be unhappy because all his children are girls, and wish to marry another woman in order to have a male child; forgetting that some couples don’t have any children at all. Be contended with the gender of your children and Thank God
  4. A man may be unhappy because all his children are boys, forgetting that some couples don’t have any children at all. Be contended with the gender of your children
  5. A couple may be unhappy because they have only one child, forgetting that some couples don’t have any children at all. Be contended with the number of children God gave you
  6. In some marriages, the wife may be unhappy that her husband is jobless, forgetting that there are still many ladies out there looking for a man whether jobless or not to marry. Be contended with the man that God has given you.
  7. Some people have good jobs/income in their country of birth, but are not contended; and must travel abroad at all cost to Europe or North America for better life. Many have lost their lives or ended up in ungodly jobs in the process. Be contended with your income and don’t indulge in any illegitimate activity to improve your income.
  8. Some families eating three square meals complain of lack of variety; whereas several families cannot even boost of a single meal. Whatever meal that you can afford be contended with it and Praise God for a better meal tomorrow.

 

 

How to be contended

  1. Focus on God

Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth- Colossians 3 vs 2

  1. Live in Holiness

Proverbs 16 vs 8- Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.

  1. Trust God to provide your needs

Pslam 37 vs 4- 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

  1. Focus on needs not luxuries

Luke 12 vs. 15, 21 –  15And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth

 

  1. Avoid stealing

Hebrews 13 vs 5-5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

  1. Be ready to pay the Prize of righteousness

2 Corinthians 12 vs 10- That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Phillipians 4 vs 12-12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

  1. Serve God

Psalm 37 vs 4- 3  4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

  1. DON’T COMMIT SIN TO ACQUIRE WEALTH. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
  2. PURSUE HOLINESS-I TIMOTHY 6 VD 1 TIM 6 VS 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

IF GOD DOES NOT DESERVE THANKS FOR WHAT YOU HAVE …YOU DONT DESERVE TO GET MORE FROM HIM

Thank God for what you have, and He will do more for you.

Commentary on Matthew 1

The theme of Matthew 1 is the genealogy and birth of Jesus Christ.

We can see that Jesus descended from a godly ancestry. He is the direct descendant of David and Abraham. May every ungodly ancestry in your lives or in your past be cut off in Jesus name

The Chapter also reflects the perfection of the Bible. All the ancestors of Jesus were recorded, 42 of them from Adam, even in those days when record keeping was poor. This shows the Bible is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit. See verses 1 and 42.

Jesus is also a direct descendant of King Solomon who was a son of an adulterous relationship between King David and Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife. See verse 6. These shows God’s infinite mercy. Once you confess and repent, God forgive your past sins, no matter the magnitude.

Joseph did not come together with his espoused wife -Mary, before they married. Verse 18. If Joseph and Mary had indulged in pre-marital sex, they would have lost their historical and spiritual roles in the destiny of Jesus, the Saviour.

Many people are involved in sexual relationship outside marriage these days either in form of premarital sex or extra marital sex. Youths, if you are engaged to be married, emulate the example of Joseph, avoid coming together until your wedding night.

Teenagers, flee from sexual lusts. Keep yourself. Zip up. The Holy Spirit shall strengthen you in Jesus name.

The Bible describes Joseph as a ‘Just’ man. Verse 19. Could you be described as a just man or woman? Are you a just husband, wife, or child? May Holy Spirit sharpen you to become a just person in Jesus name

The greatest lesson or message of the chapter lies in the names of son of God: He was revealed as Jesus in Matthew 1 vs. 21 – And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sinsand Emmanuel in Matthew 1 vs. 23 – Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

The lessons in Mathew 1 vs 21 is that Names are important. Jesus fulfilled his name as a Saviour, Lord, and Messiah. What does your name mean? What names did you inherit from your parents or ancestors? Do they glorify God or Satan? Cut off every evil ancestry in Jesus name.

Mary is described as a Virgin. Verse 23. Do you still treasure your virginity? Would Mary have been chosen as the ‘mother’ of Jesus if she was not a virgin. If you have been sexually active before outside marriage, you can still practice secondary abstinence. May blood of Jesus blot out your past sins

Joseph was obedient to the word of God, he followed the instruction of the Angel of God that directed him to take Mary as his wife and name the new born baby Jesus. Verse 24. Many people have lost their blessings through disobedience to divine instructions. May God kill your disobedience in Jesus name

Jesus means Saviour, from sins. There is no founder of any religion that was foretold or proclaimed himself as being able to save man from his sins.

Emmanuel means God with us. As such, Jesus is God in human flesh.

Jesus is the only man that ever lived that did not inherit the sin of Adam which brought destruction to the world; though he is a descendant of Abraham, his ‘biological’ father was the Holy Ghost through which he was conceived. Joseph was really his adopted father because he never knew Mary.

Jesus can save man from sin because he was not born a sinner. No other religion could save from sin because their founders were born of flesh and blood, inherited sin and are sinful themselves.

The key lesson of Mathew 1 is that anytime you call on Jesus, you are calling God and Saviour.

1 Samuel 15:23 King James Version (KJV)-23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

 

Joshua 1:18 King James Version (KJV)-18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage

 

What is rebellion?

  1. Rebellion is disobeying Gods commandments
  2. Rebellion is disobeying divine instructions as delivered by Ministers of God
  3. Rebellion is engaging in idolatry
  4. Rebellion is the elder sister of Pride
  5. God: Deuteronomy 31:27; Joshua 22:22; Ezra 4:17-24; Nehemiah 9:17
  6. Rebellion is continuing in sin after knowing the truth
  7. Rebellion is sin personified in Satan: Genesis 3:1-13
  8. Rebellion is comparable to witchcraft: 1 Samuel 15:16-23
  9. Rebellion is the twin sister of witchcraft
  10. If you are rebellion you are a witch
  11. Rebellion is a practice of evil people: Proverbs 17:11; Isaiah 65:2
  12. Rebellion results in the loss of blessings from God: Numbers 20:10-24; Joshua 2:1-15; Jeremiah 28:2-17
  13. Rebellion angers God: Isaiah 65:1-7; 1 Peter 3:18-22
  14. You are only allowed to rebel against unjust laws and commandments
  15. Rebellion leads to destruction
  16. Rebellion results in death: Romans 5:12-19; 1 Peter 2:4-8
  17. Rebellious people are children of Satan
  18. God does not bless rebellious people
  19. In the old testament, rebellion was punishable by death
  20. Any one that rebels against the word of God will eventually end up in hell

Rebellion in the Bible

  1. In the Bible Adam and Eve rebelled against God, and they were driven out of the garden of Eden
  2. The descendants of Noah rebelled against God by building the tower of Babel, and God scattered them
  3. Angels that rebelled against God have been chained for judgement on the last day
  4. The children of Israel rebelled against God and were all destroyed in the wilderness except three
  5. Miriam rebelled against Moses, and she became leprous
  6. Korah, Dathan and Abiram rebelled against Moses and were swallowed by the ground
  7. King Saul rebelled against Gods instructions to kill all the captives and he was rejected by God
  8. Satan rebellion against God and he was thrown out of heaven
  9. Jonah rebelled against the commandments of God to go and preach in Nineveh and he was swallowed by the fish
  10. Judas rebelled against Jesus and he was hanged on the tree

  1. You are rebellious if don’t obey the godly instruction of your parents
  2. You can rebel against the Holy Spirit if you decide to ignore His instructions
  3. If you disobey your Supervisor in the office without just, you are rebellious
  4. Wives if you refuse to submit to a loving husband you are have witchcraft spirit
  5. If you break away from a church without due procedure you are rebellious
  6. Many church members are rebelling against simple instructions given by church leaders
  7. If you refuse to obey the simple instruction of this group, you need deliverance from the spirit of rebellion
  8. Many churches are rebelling against God by observing doctrines contrary to the word of God

 

Prayer

Ephesians 4:11

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

 

Acts 20:28 – Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

 

1 Timothy 3 vs. 1-7

This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Titus 1 vs 6-9;

If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

 

 

  1. There are five offices in the New Testament church as outlined by Apostle Paul. The offices according to hierarchy are:
  • Apostles
  • Prophets
  • Evangelists
  • Pastors
  • Teachers

 

  1. One of the offices is Bishop also referred to as Overseers in the Bible
  2. Bishop is not recognised as a special office in the Bible. In several places where the term is used in the Bible, it refers to someone or anybody who preaches.
  3. In several places in the Bible the word Bishop is used interchangeably with Pastors, Servants, Overseers and Elders.
  4. Unfortunately, some Churches or ministers of God, these days have unduly magnified the office of the Bishop because they want to be specially recognized.
  5. Bishops are preachers and Deacons are servants in the church
  6. A Bishop teaches.
  7. A Deacon executes the instructions of Bishops
  8. Bishops are preachers and teachers of the word
  9. Deacons are administrators and assistants of Bishops.
  10. Any person that describes himself as a Bishop, know that he is simply a Pastor or Teacher of the word
  11. There are several titles in the present day local church that are not mentioned in the Bible. This includes Pope, Archbishop, General Overseer, Right Reverent, Reverend Father, Reverend, Cardinal, Father, Very Right Reverend, Reverend, Patriarch etc
  12. All these positions are human creations, no more no less.
  13. There are also many other honorific titles like Daddy G.O. and Mummy G.O. While our Church leaders deserve utmost respect, and there may be nothing wrong in using these titles according to local traditions to accord respect to elders, but the truth still remains that thy are all human creations

Duties of a Bishop or Overseer

  1. To perfect the saints in the way of the Lord
  2. To edify the Church to the glory of God
  3. Feed the congregation the word of God

 

Qualifications  of a Bishop or Overseer  or Pastor

  1. Blameless- perfect
  2. Must be married
  3. A monogamist. Husband of one wife. A polygamist cannot be a Bishop
  4. Wise, Watchful, and intelligent
  5. Humble, temperate, patient.
  6. Well mannered, not unruly
  7. Caring, loving, and willing to help others
  8. Passionate and able to teach the word of God
  9. Not a drunkard
  10. Not quarrelsome, gentle
  11. Honest, not covetous, not greedy, not a lover of ill-gotten money
  12. Patient
  13. Peacemaker
  14. A responsible husband
  15. A responsible and discipled father
  16. His children must not be vagabonds
  17. Not a new church member or convert. Should be tested and trusted
  18. Not proud of arrogant
  19. Easy going
  20. Should have good testimonies from people
  21. Blameless
  22. Not self-willed or self-centred, un selfish
  23. Should have godly friends
  24. Sincere and just
  25. Holy, not committing sins
  26. Well-grounded in the word of God
  27. Not ashamed to preach or teach the gospel
  28. Good Bible teacher and speaker

 

Summary

The position of a Bishop much revered in the present day Church is equivalent to that of an Overseer, or a Pastor.

 

Prayer:  Holy Spirit, give me the heart of a Bishop in Jesus name

Spiritual gifts in Bible: 1 Corinthians 12:8–10

1 Corinthians 12:8–10

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

There are nine spiritual gifts itemized in 1 Corinthians 12

 No 1: Word of Wisdom. This enables a Christian to know the solution to any problem

No 2 : Word of knowledge. This enables a Christian to know what is going on in a place, people, or with a person.

 No 3: Faith. A christian with this gift believes God for the possible or impossible without any shred of doubt

No 4: Gift of healing: A christian with this gift is able to heal any sickness supernaturally, including those termed incurable.

No 5: Working of miracles. This gift enables a Christian to achieve anything against the natural order, laws, rules, or protocol.

No 6: Prophecy. A christian with this gift is able to make divine declarations or statements in native tongue reflecting the mind of God. Prophecy is God speaking through a human bring.

 No 7: Discerning of spirits. This enables a believer to detect the presence, plans, and purpose of both Holy Spirit and evil spirits.

 No 8: Divers kinds of tongues. The speaker speaks, prays, or exhorts in other languages not known to him

No 9: Interpretation of tongues. This enables a Christian to interpret in a native language utterance spoken in an unknown language by another Christian with the gift of divers kinds of tongues

Facts about spiritual gifts

1. These are given by the Holy Spirit.
2. They are for ALL Christians not church leaders alone
3. Many Christian are ignorant of these gifts
4. Many Christians don’t manifest these gifts throughout their life time.
5. The gifts are diverse, and are for different but complementary administrations and operations
6. Many believers have these gifts but the gifts are dormant, not used, or activated.
7. If we have these gifts, every Christian will lead a victorious life
8. These gifts can be received by holiness,active service to God, prayer, faith, and by simply asking from the Holy Spirit

Prayers

🙌Holy spirit activate every spiritual gift in me in Jesus name
🙌Power of God destroy my spiritual ignorance and illiteracy in Jesus name
🙌 Holy Spirit teach me how to receive, activate, and use my spiritual gifts in Jesus name
🙌I claim my spiritual gifts from the wardrobe of heaven in Jesus name
🙌Holy spirit give me every spiritual gifts you have prepared for me before I was born in Jesus name
🙌Holy Spirit transform me from the ordinary level to the supernatural level in Jesus name

Joshua 1 vs 9Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Isaiah 41 vs. 10-13 – 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 

11 “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. 

12 Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. 

13 For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

Psalm 27 vs. 1 – The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

Isaiah 544 “Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.

7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

  1. FEAR NOT and DO NOT BE AFRAID appeared many times in the Bible
  2. Out of the multitude that left Egypt, only three people entered the promised land. The others were consumed by fear in the wilderness

Psalm 82 vs 6: I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

John 10 vs 34: Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 

Genesis 1 vs.27  So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them

What does the Bible in Genesis 1 vs 27 and Psalm 82 vs 6 mean by “Ye are gods’? Why does God call you a god?

  1. Daily we all pray to God to give us our needs. This is quite biblical and scriptural.
  2. Our prayer every day to God is mostly about requesting one thing or the other from God.
  3. Our prayer requests most times is requesting God to give us something
  • God give me a husband
  • God give me a wife
  • God give us children
  • God give me house
  • God give me money
  • God give me car
  • God give me visa
  • God give me job
  • God give me clothes
  • God give me.., God give me…,God give me….is a recurring decimal in our prayers
  1. The interesting thing is that any good relationship is not a one-way traffic.
  2. Relationship has to be mutually benefitting.
  3. Just as we want God to give us various things, God also want something from us.
  4. There is something God wants you to give him today, will you be willing to give Him?
  5. We may have various prayer requests before God, but God only have one prayer requests for us
  6. We may want God to give us several things, but God wants just one thing from us
  7. There is something God wants you to give him today, are your ready to give Him?
  8. We want clothes, money, house, job, husbands etc from God…but He also wants something from us. Just one thing.

  1. Have you given your heart to mobile phones instead of God? T. Are you attached to phone more that the Bible? Do you spend more time on phone more than on prayer? Don’t become too much attached to your phone, that affects your relationship with God and man.

  1. Have you given your heart to Television programmes, movies, and films… Hollywood, Nollywood, and Bollywood? TV programmes like Nigeria can become your idol when you waste productive time watching unproductive programmes. Is there any TV programme you cannot do without watching? Spend more time praying, reading the Bible rather than sleeping and watching TV programmes that never ends

  1. Have you given your heart to Guinness, Stout, Heineken, and other Strong drinks and Beers?If you are hooked to drinks then it has become your god. If you can’t do without drinking bottles at set times, that the Bacchus spirit has overcome you.

  1. Have you given your heart to drugs and cigarettes instead of to God?:Many people are addicted to drugs and cigarettes and its adversely affecting incomes, causing depression, breaking marriages and ill health.

Some cannot do without reading newspapers daily, but reading a chapter of the Bible a month becomes a big problem.
  2. Have you given your heart to food:Do you find difficult to fast even till 12 noon once a week? Are you a glutton or cannot take your eyes off from food? Do you eat 24 times a day? Then food has become your god. Unless you kill your flesh and abstain from food and drinks from time to time, your spirit man will not receive the fire of God.

Unfortunately, worldly music and dance has not only penetrated but taken over the church. There are lot of dancing and entertaining churches around

  1. You give God your heart by obeying his commandments and living by his laws.
  2. You give God your heart by serving him with all your strength, power and might.
  3. You give God your heart by running away from every appearance of sin such as adultery, fornication, pornography, drug addiction, greed, and covetousness.
  4. You give God your heart by joining a local church, worshipping and serving God with other Christians.
  5. You give God your heart by placing his matters first above all other things.#
  6. You give your heart by supporting the gospel, supporting evangelism, soul winning , missionary work
  7. You give your heart by paying your tithes offerings and supporting the less privilege- widows, strangers, etc
  8. You give God your heart by reading the Holy Bible and meditating on its contents day and night.
  9. You give God your heart by not embarking on any course of action without informing him and seeking his advice.
  10. You give God you heart by discussing your plans and anxieties with him in prayers.
  11. You give God your heart by refraining from joining or withdrawing your membership of any worldly, satanic and occult association
  12. Most importantly You give God your heart by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, and inviting the Holy Spirit to guide and rule your life.

When the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to Gehazi his servant, “Behold, there is the Shunammite. 26 “Please run now to meet her and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?'” And she answered ,“It ill.”s we  – 2 Kings 2 vs 24-26

Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.- Isaiah 3 vs 10

  1. There is somebody here today that has to say the words IT IS WELL to his soul
  2. There is someone here today that has to say the words IT IS WELL to his body
  3. There is a person here today that has to tell his spirit IT IS WELL

What do you need to do to ensure IT IS WELL?

  1. Hand over the matter completely to the Holy Spirit
  2. Cool down
  3. Calm your nerves.
  4. Be patient
  5. Weep Not as this glorifies Satan
  6. Don’t cry.
  7. Don’t murmur against God
  8. Don’t lament
  9. Run to God
  10. Run to the Church so that brethren can intercede for you.
  11. Run to the Man of God for counsel and prayers
  12. Observe a quiet time with God

 

What do you need to do to ensure IT IS WELL?

  1. Be silent in order to hear God
  2. Listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying
  3. Embark on aggressive praises to overcome depression
  4. Embark on quality worship like 6 hours non-stop to bring down the presence of God
  5. If necessary, declare a dry fast- three day no food no water
  6. Declare a 30-day warfare night vigil
  7. Follow divine instructions.
  8. Most importantly repent of your sins and COME BACK TO GOD

  1. Few days ago someone sent a message to me, saying : ‘Help me, I am going to die’
  2. I asked her if she truly wants to die, and she said No
  3. I asked her whether she has started preparation for death, and she said No.
  4. I asked her why was she confessing death, and she said she was afraid of dying.
  5. I told her that death is at the corner anyway, and if she keeps saying ‘I am going to die’, she will surely die soon. But if she confesses life, she will surely live instead of dying

The assignment the Holy Spirit is giving us tonight is just to say the word on what we want.

  • There is a word for your healing
  • Just say the word and you shall receive your miracle.
  • Just say the word and you shall be healed in Jesus name
  • You can issue commandment to anything by the word of God
  • Look for a word of God in the Bible, memorise, confess it, chant it, stand on it, meditate it, sing it, say it until you see results

Today is Father’s day, and we shall be looking at Bible qualities of a good father, how to honour our father, deliverance from evil fatherly influence and our relationship with our heavenly father

Qualities of a good father

  • A good father protects his children from danger, evil, and harm.

Honour your father

Exodus 20 vs. 12 –Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

  3. You honour your parents by using your income and resources to care and support them.

  6. I decided a couple of years ago that a percentage of my income goes to my parents

Some of us, the money we have given to others as gifts… Friends, colleagues, or even our Pastors, we have NEVER given 1/10th of it to our Parents who laboured for us, feed us, paid our bills, sent us to school, borrowed to feed us, took care of us when we are sick, prayed for us day and night etc

Exodus 20 vs. 12 – Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

  • What does the scripture mean?
  • Don’t bring the name of your parents into disrepute.
  • Respect your parents.
  • Recognise your parents. Don’t be ashamed of them in public places, no matter how poor or illiterate they may be.
  • Acknowledge your parents through the work of your hands. Don’t forget to dedicate your books, works, etc to them.
  • Give your parents a treat. Sponsor them on tourism.
  • Greet your parents very well, every time that is necessary.
  • Make your parents comfortable. Are you living in a mansion while your parents are living in penury? Are you driving a posh car while your parents are trekking?
  • Obey your parents.
  • Don’t forget the past labours of your parents on you.
  • Give your parents gifts and offerings.
  • Two years ago, I decided at least 2.5% of all my income goes to my parents.
  • This year, I increased it to 5%.
  • You can do better.

Cutting off evil fatherhood

  1. Some of us need to cut off from our father’s house
  2. If you father is not serving Christ then you have prayers to pray
  3. If your father is in secret society, occult, confraternity, or anti-Christ, then you have to pray hard
  4. Your not only need to pray from your deliverance, you also need to pray for their salvation
  5. It is possible that your father has covenanted you to Satan
  6. You need to pray and break every covenant made on your behalf by your parents
  7. Pray like this- I refuse to serve the gods of my fathers house
  8. I detach myself from the curses running in my fathers house
  9. Some of us need to completely separate yourself from our family before we can achieve deliverance
  10. Do you come from polygamous family? Then you have prayers to pray

Driving instructors in Holland are now legally allowed to accept sex as payment for lessons.

Dutch driving instructors can now accept SEX as payment

Yes – that’s 100% correct.

The new law, called ‘Ride for a Ride’, has just been introduced by the Dutch government for any student as long as they are over the age of 18.

Prostitution is legal in Holland, if the person has a valid escort licence and pays their taxes on a self-employment basis, with this new law taking things one step further.

But not everyone is impressed by the ruling.

Gert-Jan Segers, from the conservative Christian Union Party, tabled a question to the Dutch parliament saying the practice should remain illegal.

Responding, Netherlands Transport Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen and Justice minister Ard van der Steur said: ‘It’s not about offering sexual activities for remuneration, but offering a driving lesson.

‘It is important that the initiative lies with the driving instructor, and focuses on offering a driving lesson, with the payment provided in sexual acts.

‘When a sexual act is offered in lieu of financial payment, that is prostitution.’

Web searches for ‘Ride for a Ride’ have apparently increased after the law got the green light.

Sermon on lying: Is lying a sin?

Memorise: “A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies” (Prov 14:5)

Read: Revelation 1:4-6

“And from Jesus Christ who is the faithful witness, and the first-begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Rev 1:5).

From the above scripture, Jesus Christ is not calling us to be what He is not. He is calling us to be His witnesses because He is the Faithful Witness. God does not want you to be just a witness but a faithful one at that. Being a witness means you are sitting on the fence: you are capable of being influenced either way.

Many witnesses have become false witnesses. When some witnesses are offered incentives, they change their story and switch over to the opposing camp. Around us today are many false witnesses. Who is a false witness? Proverbs 6:19 says a false witness is a liar. If you claim to be born again but still engage in lies, you are a false witness.

A liar is a child of Satan, his or her ministerial position notwithstanding. If you are still telling lies you are no longer representing the One who chose you to be His witness. You have moved camp.

“A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies” (Prov 14:5 ). One thing that amazes me today is the ease with which leaders tell lies and engage in deceit.

Those days, after we were born again, we were afraid to lie. When someone lies in a delicate or volatile situation, one would understand even though the situation cannot turn a lie from being what it is. But you would see leaders lying about things that do not threaten them. They do not take care to ensure whatever comes out of their mouth is the truth. There is little or no commitment to truth.

To worsen this, believers lie and call it ‘wisdom’. No, a lie is not wisdom but foolishness. One reason many will find themselves in eternal hell is because of lies (Rev 21:8; 22:15). No liar will make it to Heaven. Do you love making up stories? You are on a hell-bound bus. In John 14:6, Jesus says He is the Truth. In other words, He is Truth personified. How can Jesus be the epitome of truth and you want to represent Him through lies? Repent. Stop lying. Restitute over the lies you have told and make your ways right before God. You can be a true witness.

Every lie you tell makes eternal reservations for you in hell.

  2. Just as the temple of God was desecrated in the times of Jesus, the contemporary church has also been largely desecrated.
  3. Several churches in the modern day, have been turned to business centers by commercial preachers who sell Holy water, Anointing oils, and Holy handkerchiefs to unwary members; and burden them with ceaseless requests for offerings, often diverted for personal aggrandizement.
  4. In several places, spiritual traders have taken over the solemn office of Pastors, Priests, Bishops and Reverends; the gospel has been commercialized with a price tag for the highest bidder.
  5. In several places, money chargers in Bishops cloaks have taken over the pulpit, amassing fortunes in the name of Jesus and trading the souls of men for a crowd of spiritual customers looking for mmiracles like instant coffee.
  6.  Just like in the days of Jesus, political plunderers of our common patrimony now occupy the front rows in churches, as the biggest thieves of public and private wealth are those honoured with the front seats.
  7. Like Jesus, we must rise up to physically and spiritually cast our spiritual traders and businesses men from our churches; we must overthrow them from their front seats, expose, and chase out our common criminals out of the church.
  8. We must pray to reinstate holiness, piety, humility, commonality, brotherliness, humanism, and righteousness to the church.

Commentary on Matthew 19: Why a rich man may not make heaven

Matthew 19 vs. 23- Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

 

  1. A rich man that puts his trust in the riches to solve all his problems instead of trusting God may not make heaven.
  2. Money may become his god. A rich man that devotes their time, energy, and power to make money rather than serving God may not make heaven.
  3. A rich man that believes money can solve all his problems may become godless and lose heaven.
  4. A rich man may become too busy managing his riches that he has no time for the things of God like reading the bible, praying, and fellowshipping with believers.
  5. Some rich men might have committed sins (bribery and corruption, murder etc.) to accumulate and sustain their riches.
  6. A rich man who does not have compassion for the poor and does not share/spend his riches on the poor may be committing a sin.
  7. It is almost impossible to become rich in this world without committing a sin or making covenant with the devil along the way.

Exodus 23 vs. 15 – Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)

  1. Several years ago, I escorted my mum to visit a King, one of the traditional rulers in a neighboring community, to seek a favour.
  2. On our way to the King’s palace, my mum reminded me that we have to take a gift along for the King; as it is against the local customs and tradition to visit the King empty handed.
  3. As a result, we purchased a bottle of wine which we presented to the King in his palace.
  4. Noteworthy, the King collected our gift, promised to grant our requests, but never did.

What lessons can we learn from this story?

  1. If local custom and tradition forbids appearance before an earthly King empty handed, how are we appearing before the King of kings? How serious do we take the biblical injunction in Exodus 23 vs. 15 that we should not appear before God empty handed?
  2. The King that my mum and I gave a gift few years ago, (because we wanted a favour) died last year without fulfilling his promise to us, but we have a King of Kings who keeps promises and lives King forever.

  1. You should hold an offering in your hand anytime you go to church, unless you are without any money. Exodus 23 vs. 15 – Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)
  2. God is interested in the quality of your offerings rather than the quantity of your offering. If you give $5 (50%) out of a total income of $10; you have given more than someone that gave $500 (10%) out of a total income of $5000. Mark 12 vs. 41-44
  3. Always bring an offering to the Lord every time and anytime you come to his presence. Exodus 25 vs. 1-2 – And theLord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.
  4. Give from your heart. Decide how much you want to give before you leave the house. Give willingly, cheerfully and rejoicefully. Don’t give because someone forces you to give but because you believe you should give. Any offering given grudgingly is not acceptable to God. What is the meaning of this verse?

1. There are physical, spiritual, financial, academical, professional, marital, business etc graves.

2. Those that are dead are buried in physical graves, but there are many that are alive that are in various forms of graves.

3. God is ready to open the  graves, bring you out, and restore your fortunes.

What is a grave?

1. A grave is place of hopelessness. Perhaps you are facing hopeless situation today, you are in a grave.

2. A grave is a place  people are abandoned and forgotten. Perhaps your friends are relations have cut you off, abandoned you and forgotten you in  afflictions, then you are in a grave.

3. A grave is a place of dryness. Has your income, finances, womb, health, marriage, job etc dried up suddenly and  unexpectedly? Then you are in a grave.

4. A grave is a place of deadness. Are there dead things in your life, though you are still alive? Is any part of your body dead, your marriage dead, your businesses dead? ….then you are in a grave.

5. A grave is a burial ground, where destinies are buried and sealed. Perhaps your talent, blessings, star, etc is not manifesting, then you are in a grave.

How to come out of graves?

1. Be born again and serve God.

2. Cry to God in prayer and fasting.

3. Stand on the word of God.

4. Prophecy against the graves, in the order and spirit of Prophet Ezekiel.

Prayers

1. Graves that have swallowed my job, marriage, husband, wife, money, health, salvation etc…open up and vomit me now in Jesus name.

2. Graves prepared to swallow me, be covered with the blood of Jesus.

3. Graves in my family and household, you shall not swallow me in Jesus name.

4. Jesus of Nazareth release me from graves of poverty and sicknesses.

5. My star and fortunes, come out of the graves in Jesus name.

What does Grace do?

  1. Grace saves when others are being destroyed.
  2. It brings favour from God.
  3. It causes one to hear from God
  4. Grace is infectious, grace saved Noah, but his household also benefited from this grace. He went to the ark with his wives, his sons, and the three wives of his sons -Genesis 7 vs 7, 13. The grace of God not only saved Noah but also saved his household.
  5. Grace brings you into remembrance with God – Genesis 8 vs 1.
  6. God brings answered prayers- Genesis  8 vs 21.
  7. Grace brings spiritual blessings-Genesis 9 vs 1
  8. Grace establishes God’s covenant with you and your household- Genesis 9 vs 9

 

Why did Noah find grace in the eyes of God?

  1. He was a just man – Genesis 6 vs 9
  2. He was perfect – Genesis 6 vs 9
  3. He walked with God – Genesis 6 vs 9
  4. He was totally obedient to God-Genesis 6 vs 9
  5. He was righteous before God- Genesis 7 vs 1

 

Holiness brings grace, sinfulness brings disgrace. If you want to experience the grace of God this month, give your life to God, and be a Noah of this generation.

What are the blessings of Abraham?

  1. Abraham was blessed by God and many people pray to receive similar Abrahamic blessings.
  2. The Lord appeared to Abraham and gave him conditions to receive divine blessings. It goes without saying that if you wish to receive the same blessings, you need to fulfil the same conditions.

‘Strangers shall submit unto me’: My encounter with a strange woman

And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger’– Proverbs 5 vs 20

 

I never like hotels, unfortunately the nature of my job forces me to sleep in hotels often. Over the past years I have seen misdeeds and evils happening in several hotels- drinking spree, drunkenness, smoking, revelling, wild partying, and various forms of sexual perversion. I have come to regard hotels, largely as the hotbed and melting pot of sin. The class or rating of the hotel does not really matter, acts of unrighteousness do occur in almost all hotels.

 

As a man, it takes the grace of God to resist the sinful temptations that hotels exhibit, allow, and accommodate. My strategy has always been to stay in my hotel room as much as possible, and cut off from the worldliness that often take place within the premises.

 

I am presently domiciled in an hotel, and had an encounter with a lady that fits the Biblical description of a ‘strange woman’ See Proverbs chapter 5., few days ago. The hotel is not a brothel, and on a 1-5 rating qualifies as a three-star hotel.

 

Specifically, last Thursday evening, as I stepped out of my hotel room around 8pm, I was accosted less than 10 metres away by a scantily dressed lady who said she wanted to talk to me. I waited to hear what she had to say. She told me her story, saying she had come to the hotel to meet her boyfriend, but found another lady with him and he didn’t give her attention; as such she was stranded and needed some money to transport herself home.  She wanted me to help her with some money to transport herself.

 

As she narrated her story, I could see almost all her breasts, popping out of her loose dress. I guessed immediately that there is no truth in her fairy tale. From her enticing and sexy composure, I knew this was a lady of easy virtue looking for a sex partner, in return for a financial reward. My immediate reaction was to walk away.

However, it occurred to me that this lady was offering me with what she has, which is her body, I should also offer her what I have- which is Jesus of Nazareth. One of the principles of life is that if you don’t confess the word, the world will win you over. It occurred to me that this was an opportunity to evangelise and I ceased it by His grace.

 

I told her that I wish to talk to her, arguing that since I had allowed her to talk to me, she should also allow me to talk to her. She consented and suggested following me to my room which was metres away from where we stood. Of course, I declined knowing fully well – that was a trap and very risky. She them suggested we should go to the Bar, I declined and told her I didn’t mind talking to her, right there on the spot.

 

To cut a long story short, I told her about the love of Christ. Referring to her story in which she said her boyfriend disappointed her, I told her if she made Jesus Christ her boyfriend, she would never be disappointed. I informed her that I knew she was looking for a sex partner, and counselled her that going out to hotels looking for a sexual partner, in return for financial reward is sinful and an unsustainable source of livelihood. She should also be mindful of the medical risks and dangers involved.

 

She became crest fallen as I shared the gospel, and was almost crying. She never expected to hear a sermon. To the glory of God, the Holy Spirit arrested her.  She told me she is an orphan with financial challenges. I further told her the wages of sin is death, but Jesus came to carry her burdens, including financial burdens in exchange for abundant life. Finally, I encouraged her to surrender her life to Christ, and to the glory of God she agreed.

 

I led her through the confessional prayer, but she stopped at the point I asked her to say: ‘I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour’.

She is most likely a Muslim, as she bears the name -Amirat. From experience, I know it takes the grace of God to convert a Muslim. I knew it was the devil that was at work, and explained to her this was the most important confession she had to say in her life.                                                                                 After persuading her to no avail, I warned her that the Holy Spirit was giving her what might be a last opportunity to decide where she would spend eternity, and she just needed to confess the Lord Jesus to be saved.

I told her what is written in Romans 10 vs 9: That if thou confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. To the glory of God, she finally said the most important words: I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour.

 

The story did not end there. I thought I should pray with her. As I raised my voice and covered her with the blood of Jesus, she felled to the ground, and started shouting ‘Leave me alone, Leave me alone’. I knew it was the demon spirits inside her that were speaking.                                                                                               I stood on 2 Samuel 22 vs 45 that says: Strangers shall submit themselves unto me, as soon as they hear me they shall be obedient to me. Strangers shall fade away, they shall be afraid out of their closes places’ and commanded the demons’ spirits to shut up and be silenced in Jesus name.

Of course they did, for there is power in Jesus name and at the mention of his name every knee must bow- Philippians 2vs 10. Next the lady started throwing up as if she wanted to vomit. I cast out the evil spirits inside her in Jesus name. She stopped throwing up and slept off. I called the attention of an hotel staff to take her away. We discovered she was fast asleep on the ground, and had to be sprinkled with water before she woke up. She was later led away.

 

What lessons can we learn from this story?

  1. The devil is a roaring life looking for who to devour- 1 Peter 5 vs 8. Every Christian has a duty to resist the devil. I believe this lady who accosted me by my hotel room, was programmed from the pit of hell, but God turned it to a testimony.
  2. The Bible says when sinners entice thee, consent thee not- Proverbs 1 vs 10. Let no one say I committed sin by mistake. You have the mind and power to say No to sin.
  3. If you don’t have the word of God, the world will win you over. The Holy Spirit helped me to overcome this sexual temptation because He gave me the grace to preach the word.
  4. Most afflictions are self-inflicted. The lady was evidently demonised. I guessed if I had succumbed to her sexual advances, she would have passed demons into my life in the course of enjoying the pleasures of sin… I may not even be alive to tell the story. When I recounted the story to my wife, she said any lady that manifested in such a manner under prayer, could even turn to a snake on bed. Many people have put themselves into bondages through sins and misdeeds.
  5. Every opportunity is an opportunity to evangelise. She offered me her body, but I countered by offering her Christ. The Bible says the Light shinnneth in darkness, but darkness comprehended it not– John 1vs 4. Darkness will always bow to light.
  6. The harvest is real but the labourers are few. Who would have thought that a sex worker would surrender her life to Christ?
  7. Finally, women need to pray for your husbands not to fall into evil temptations that would not only destroy their lives but their households. Men need to beware. Strange women are on prowl. May God give us the grace to overcome temptations, and may God give us the heart to be soul winners in Jesus name.
  8. In your quiet time, remember to pray for Amirat, lady I met in the city of Yola, Nigeria on April 1, 2016. She must not go back to the world. Heaven is her portion in Jesus name. Our children, wives, and husbands shall be delivered from strange women and men in Jesus name.

Bible on day of rest and worship: Is Sabbath day Saturday or Sunday?

  1. A guy called me on the phone yesterday, a Saturday, asking for the address of any Sabbath church in Lagos, Nigeria. He said he worships on the Sabbath, but he has not found a Sabbath church to worship in Lagos.
  2. I asked him why he thought I was the right person to give him the information, and he said he read one of my articles online, which states that the Sabbath day is the biblical day of rest and worship. I further asked him did I specifically mention any day in the article as the Sabbath day? The caller did not respond. I asked him again in that my article, did I mention Saturday or Sunday as the Sabbath day? He did not respond and cut off the phone.
  3. I have gone through my earlier online article on the Sabbath day accessible here: https://christonline.wordpress.com/2013/07/18/when-is-sabbath-day-saturday-or-sunday/ when I said Saturday is ‘arguably’ the day of Sabbath, but I did not say it is the only day of worship.
  4. There is a related article I posted on: https://christonline.wordpress.com/2008/05/23/daily-bible-study-how-to-keep-the-sabbath-day-holy/…but the article is not my opinion but that of a church I fellowship. But the article only said Sunday is not regarded as the Sabbath by some people, the article did not state the Sabbath day, but enjoined readers to read this up in the Bible as an assignment.
  5. In other not to be misread and misinterpreted I will like to make some clarifications based on the scriptures below:
  • Genesis 2 vs 2-3: By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
  • Exodus 20 vs 8- 10: Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.
  • Mark 2 vs 27: Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath’sabbath day
  1. From the scriptures, above it is obvious that the seventh day- the Sabbath is a day of rest and worship.
  2. But nowhere in the Bible is any day -either Saturday or Sunday mentioned as the seventh day.
  3. The early and contemporary Jesus regarded and still regard Saturday as the seventh Day-Sabbath day/Lords day.
  4. Non-Jew Christians preferred to observe Sunday as the seventh day- Sabbath/Lord’s day from the fourth century. See a discussion of this in this link: http://www.christianbiblereference.org/faq_sabbath.htm
  5. But Jesus settled the matter by discouraging any form of legalistic righteousness. Jesus did not observe the Sabbath as the Jews did. Jesus worked on the Sabbath day, he performed miracles on the Sabbath day etc.
  6. Most importantly he said Christians should not allow themselves to be boxed into rules, and regulations about forms, times, or dates of worship, but worship God in truth and in the spirit.
  7. The Jews choose Saturday as Sabbath day, Gentiles choose Sundays as Sabbath day, if tomorrow another people choose a Monday as the Sabbath day of worship or rest, they have not committed a sin.
  8. It is not the day you choose to rest and worship God that matters, what matters is worshipping God in deed and in truth, not only or a particular day of Sabbath, but every day.
