Repentance

Luke 15: benefits of evangelism, why evangelism is important

Luke 15 vs. 7, 10I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

  1. There is joy in heaven over one new convert in Sunday service more, than 99 saved members who came for service.Image result for Luke 15 vs. 7, 10 - 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
  2. There is joy in heaven over a Christian that won a soul to Christ than a big church congregation that has not converted a single sinner to Christ.
  3. There is joy in the presence of God over one sinner that gave his life to Christ than 99 saved church members who came for Sunday service.
  4. There is joy in the presence of God over a street evangelism that led to conversion of sinners, rather than a big church service that did not lead to a conversion of anyone.

RETURNING ON HORSE BACK

Posted on Updated on

 By Pastor Enoch Adeboye
Memorise: “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Read: Luke 15:17-19

prodigal-sonTo ride on horse back is unusual progress. Effortless progress is quite an exciting experience. Who would not want to come to church when you know that the blind could see, the lame could walk or you will receive a miracle judging by past services? The presence of the miraculous has a way of spicing people’s enthusiasm to attend church meetings.

On the other hand, why won’t people lose interest in coming to church when they know it is the same praises, sermon or activity? Nothing is as spiritually killing as a cold Sunday sermon. Ministers must pay the price to deliver life-giving sermons to the congregation. In the Early church, they had great services both in the temple and in house fellowships. It was glorious progress because the leaders were riding on the back of the Holy Spirit.

Struggling stops the moment you ride on the back of the Holy Ghost. If only we can allow the Holy Spirit to carry us instead of carrying ourselves, the world will see remarkable exploits they never imagined. This is because riding is next to flying.

What can a trekking prince do to get back on the horse? First, find out what you did wrong that got you displaced. This calls for frank and unbiased personal examination. Ask yourself, where did things go wrong? Once you discover this, acknowledge your fault like the prodigal son. Willingly retrace your steps and make amends.

You would need the help of somebody greater than you to help you unseat the servant that is riding your horse because that servant would do anything to prevent a return to trekking. In the case of Samson, he cried to the Almighty God for help (Judges 16:28-30). Some time ago, our church was increasing by about 100 people every one or two months. I thought we were doing great but one day, God told me I was trekking instead of riding. Then He reminded me of the glorious days when the two of us will be chatting in my car.

Sometimes, I would stop the car just to discuss with Him. So He asked when last that happened? I apologized and put things right. That marked a new beginning for me. As you reconcile and restitute, and the Lord puts you back on the horse, keep all servants where they belong. Your flesh is your number one servant. It must be kept under (1 Corinthian 9:27).

Also, always remember to remain under the authority of the One who can lift up and pull down. Or else, no servant will want to obey you. In addition, pray without ceasing ( 1 Thessalonians 5:17). If you cannot pray, you are indirectly telling God you do not need Him. You will be restored to your horse back but stay there by His power and grace.

Some believers are trekking today because they took their internal weaknesses for granted until they were enslaved by them.

What is the true essence of Christmas?

Posted on Updated on

Matthew 1 vs. 21: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save his people from the sins.

In the next couple of weeks, Christians will mark the birthday of Jesus Christ, on what is popularly known as Christmas day. What is the significance of Christmas?

Jesus is the essence of Christmas, as a matter of fact, the word Christmas is a derivation of the word ‘Christ’. If we are celebrating Christmas, it is therefore important to know and believe in the person after whom the day was named.

As shown in the biblical passage above, Jesus Christ came on a salvage mission, to save mankind from their sins. Christmas should therefore be a time for repentance for those who have not accepted God’s plan of salvation for mankind, and a time for sober reflection and rededication for those all those that have accepted the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Jesus was born about 2007 years ago to save you from your sins. The good news is that his salvation programme did not end 2007 years ago. He is still alive ready to save you from your sins. God has given a grace of 2007 years for anyone willing to be saved to come unto him. As Christmas rolls in, it should be a time of remembrance of Gods plan of salvation.

If you do not have Christ in your life, then you be celebrating Christmas without the presence of the Celebrant in your life.

The essence of Christmas is therefore to accept Christ, the celebrant into your life and invite him to dine with you for the rest of your life. The good news is that there is a greater Christmas in heaven, a Christmas whose celebration do not end in a day. Only the redeemed can participate in this everlasting Christmas.

To register your name as a redeemed, repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord, and live a life of complete holiness. Make this confession:

Jesus Christ, I welcome you to my life as this Christmas, I accept God’s plan of salvation through you and accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Come into me and rule me in Jesus name i pray. (Amen).

Commentary on Mark 1: How do I repent to God?

Posted on

  1. Jesus was a preacher, teacher, evangelist, and deliverer. His sermons were centred on repentance and salvation of course themes of his sermons touched on several other issues, but repentance and salvation was primary
  2. Unfortunately, the contemporary church has deviated from focusing on the centrality of repentance and salvation. Prosperity messages are now the main theme.
  3. The message of repentance preached by Jesus two thousand years ago is more relevant today.
  4. There is a reader of this message that needs to repent from sin of sexual perversion, adultery, fornication, pre-marital sex, and homo-sexuality; someone needs to repent from lying, from anger, from envy, from stealing, from witnesses, and from idolatry.
  5. Repent simply, regretting your past sins, and determining to live in holiness.
  6. Jesus gave to save you from your sins. Repent, accept him as the saviour, let his blood cleanse your sins, and save you.

Qualifications to enter heaven

Posted on Updated on

Romans 3 vs. 23 – For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Revelation 21 vs. 27 – And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

  1. The Lord showed me vision of heaven few days ago.
  2. I saw people queuing at the gate of heaven desiring to enter heaven, and I also saw angelic gate keepers screening people into heaven.
  3. I noticed people on the queue were being asked just a simple question. I noticed people on the queue were being interrogated one by one. The answer to the question and response to the interrogation determines whether the person would be allowed to enter heaven or not.
  4. The simple question people were being asked is: Did you commit any sin on earth before you died that you did not confess or repent of? The issue the gatekeepers of heaven were interested in knowing is unconfessed sins the person committed while on earth.
  5. I was surprised people were not being asked how long they have been Christians, the denomination of church they attended, their role in the church, their race or parentage.
  6. The only question being asked by the gatekeepers is: What sins did you commit on earth that you did not confess before you died?
  7. I woke up and the Holy Spirit gave me a simple message that the qualification to heaven is not your denomination or church but righteousness and holiness. The only disqualification to heaven is unconfessed sin.

Prayers

  • I destroy the strongholds of sin in my life in Jesus name
  • Holy Spirit, separate me from sin in the Jesus name.
  • Holy spirit, prepare me for heaven in Jesus name

Sermon: Return to God in repentance

Posted on

Mathew 26 vs 56: Then all the disciples left him….

Just as in the days of old, many believers have abandoned the gospel for the world.

1. Christians have left the Bible for Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and other social media.

2. Christians have stopped fellowship with God in prayers, they are not fellowshipping with Television and Movies.

3. Christians especially our children have left the Bible and embraced the mobile phone with all its distractions.

4.  Christians have left the altar of prayer for the altar of gisting and gossips.

5. We have left the word of God  for the word of men, as we no longer abide by the scriptures.

6. The church has left soul winning for members winning.

7. The Church has left God worship for Pastor worship

8.  The Church has left preaching about holiness and salvation, to preaching about how members can turn to millionaires and billionaires overnight.

9. The Church has left demonstrating God’s love to building business empires.

10. The Church has left the word for the money.

The spirit of God is calling for repentance.  Pray that the Holy Spirit draws you to Him again.

Will Jesus forgive my sins?

Luke 23 vs. 39-4339 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

  1. You will surely forgive you, if you confess your sin even a minute before your death

How can I be saved in Jesus Christ?

Posted on Updated on

God’s Plan of Salvation

The Bible says there is only one way to Heaven. Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” (John 14:6) Good works cannot save you.“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Trust Jesus Christ today! Here’s what you must do:

1.     Admit you are a sinner.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23) “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12) “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:10)

2.     Be willing to turn from sin (repent).Jesus said: “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:5) “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:” (Acts 17:30)

3.     Believe that Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, and rose from the dead.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners. Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

4.    Through prayer, invite Jesus into your life to become your personal Saviour.“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:10) “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

What to pray:
Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” (John 1:12) “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Understanding God’s grace, mercy and favour.

Posted on Updated on

Jude 1 vs. 5-7:

Most people are familiar with a side of God that portrays Him as merciful, compassionate, loving, kind, forgiving, gracious, and slow to anger. But there is really the other side of God. Compassionate as He is, God could also close his ears to the cries and tribulations of rebellious children.

Good as He is, God at times allows evil to befall those that have hardened their minds to His instructions and commandments. Peaceful as He is, God could be violent and fearsome, and in fact He is a Warrior. The Holy Bible in Jude 1vs 5 describes God as a Destroyer. May we not experience the destructive side of God.

The Bible records various sets of people who had experienced, and were plagued with woes as a result of their disobedience.

“I must remind you–and you know it well–that even though the Lord rescued the whole nation of Israel from Egypt, he later destroyed every one of those who did not remain faithful. And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the day of judgment.

And don’t forget the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with sexual immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and are a warning of the eternal fire that will punish all who are evil’ – Living Bible.

As seen from the above passage, though the Israelites were God chosen people, yet, He destroyed all of them for their rebellion and disobedience -sparing only two people, Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephuneh (See Numbers 13 and 14). The passage also reveals that some angels (including Satan) have lost their place in heaven because of disobedience and rebellion against the wish of God. God has also ‘reserved’ them in everlasting chains in darkness unto the day of Judgment.

The third category of people that God decided to destroy are the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, who indulged in fornication and go after what the Bible calls “strange flesh” and “unnatural relationships”. Genesis 19 vs. 24: ‘Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens. So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground’.

The offence of the people of Sodom and Gomorrah was sexual perversion and orgies including homosexuality. In creating man and woman, God had wanted a legal conjugal relationship between a couple of opposite sex, not a male and a male, or female or female. Genesis 2 vs. 4 states: ” Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh“.

The Book of Jude 1 vs.7 states that the destruction that befell Sodom and Gomorrah was an ‘example’ of the fate that awaits all those that go after ‘strange flesh’ and indulge in ‘unnatural relationships’. ‘Strange flesh’ meaning all forms of sexual relationships out of legal marriage, and ‘unnatural relationships’ meaning such practices between the same sex, rather than between opposite sex as ordained by God.

In order not to experience the other side of God, either here on earth or on Judgment day, we have to cultivate an attitude of Holiness, righteousness and obedience to the word and commandments of God. The other side of God connotes destruction, and we must flee from all appearances of evil to avoid this.

Rev 21 – 8: But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake, which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Are you in a sinful state that qualifies you to experience the other side of God? Flee from destruction today… all you need to do is to come unto Jesus Christ, the Redeemer in genuine repentance, and dedicate the rest of your life to serving Him and doing His will.

· “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
· For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” Romans 10:13.
· “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” -Romans 10:9

Do you want to be reconciled with God, through Jesus the Lord and Saviour? Then say this simple prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that am a sinner and have fallen short of your glory. I genuinely repent from all my sins and pledge to go and sin no more. I accept your plan to reconcile mankind to you through Jesus Christ, who you sent in your name.

I believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and died on the Cross to pay the penalty for my sins and redeem me. I accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I pray that His blood washes my sins away. I invite the Holy Spirit to rule my Life. I am born again in Jesus name.

Prophetic Declarations

I am an obedient child of the Most high. I will fear him and obey his commandments. As I do so, I will walk in his covenant blessings. I know God is loving, but fearsome. I will experience only the compassionate side of God. I know God is merciful, but a Warrior.

I will experience only the gracious side of God. I will not experience God’s anger as I walk in Holiness and righteousness. I am not a candidate for God’s judgment on the disobedient, I declare myself as a candidate for God’s blessings on the obedient.

Prayers
1. Spirit of stubbornness in my life, be crucified by the blood of Jesus.
2. I refuse to be a disobedient child of God.
3. You spirit of Goat in my life, I cast you out in Jesus name.
4. You rebellious spirit of witchcraft in my life, bow to the word of God.
5. O Lord, give me the spirit of Obedience.

Can God forgive my sins?

Posted on Updated on

Luke 19 vs. 1-10:

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner.’ ”

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”
Zacchaeus, the tax Collector typified sin in the Bible. The story in Luke 19 portrays him as a wealthy Tax collector who the Pharisees regarded as not worthy of entering the Kingdom of God, but was counted worthy by Jesus Christ the Saviour of mankind.

Zacchaeus himself admitted that He is a Sinner, but he was eager and desperate to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. In order to get the mercy of God, he was willing to give up half of his possessions for the poor as a form of restitution, as required by the Mosaic laws. Moreover, Zacchaus was also willing to return all ill-gotten wealth acquired all false pretences.

In spite of being treated as outcasts by the Pharisees, Sadducees and other religious leaders of the time, Jesus Christ went to dine at Zacchaues’ home, ignoring the protestations of the Pharisees (who wrongly believed that Jesus should not be associated with sinners).

In dismissing the murmurings of the religious leaders, Jesus Christ simply said he came: “to seek and to save what was lost.” </em>(vs. 10)

There are several lessons from this Biblical passage- Luke 19. The first lesson is that Jesus Christ is the friend of Sinners who he came to save. The basic ministry of Jesus Christ is to save lost souls.

Jesus was attracted to Zacchaues and even paid him a visit in his house, the same Jesus is still willing to receive every mankind. The world may be treating you as an outcast, but Jesus is knocking the door of your heart wanting to be your friend.

Are you into any shameful activity ? Have you committed any sin that you think is beyond forgiveness? Have you eager and desperate to repent and seek the light just like Zacchaues? Are you willing to forsake the world and its pleasures for the gift of God? You too can be saved like Zacchaues if you desire. Jesus the Saviour is waiting for you.

Do you want to be reconciled with God, through Jesus the Lord and Saviour? Then say this simple prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and have fallen short of your glory.

THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS NEAR (MATHEW 10:7B)

Isaiah 12:1-14:32, Psalm 57:1-12, 2 Corinthians 13:1-13

·          Jesus demonstrated God’s tenderness and gentleness. God is always courteous, kind and even-tempered. He is never harsh or cruel in his treatment of sinners. Jesus did not try to embarrass or demean the woman caught in adultery. He also did not excuse her. He gave her a way of escape – of sin no more. Have you noticed how God treats you? Has He ever exposed your weakness, he corrects us and his kindness leads us to repentance. He covers your sin with his grace and forgiveness.

        Worship him

Whoever pursue godliness and unfailing love will find life, godliness, and honour:- Proverbs 21:21
