Easter sermon: the cross of Calvary

Posted on Updated on

Jesus on crossJohn 19 vs 16 -19:

Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: 18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS

What are you passing that is weighing down. There is no sufferings that you are passing through that Jesus Christ had not experienced. So he knows your infirmities and has a feeling of what you are experiencing.

God that gave Jesus the strength to overcome these troubles and fulfill his mission will also help you to overcome the storms of life.

The cross of Jesus Christ

Posted on Updated on

Jesus Christ went through several tortures on the way to the cross.

He was slapped

In John 18 vs. 22: 22

And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so.

A crown of thorns was placed on his head

John 19 vs. 2: 2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe.

He was mocked

John 19 vs. 3:  And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

John 19 vs. 17-18:  17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: 18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

After he was beaten, scourged, slapped and forced to wear a crown of thorns, Jesus was forced to carry the Cross and he was so much burdened by this that at a stage hCrosse could no longer carry it and some one else had to assist him.

CrossThe cross is the symbol of salvation. Jesus was assisted by a passer by to carry the cross Calvary. Even today, workers are still needed in the vineyard to spread the good news to all the ends of the earth. Cross

Are you willing to make yourself available to carry the cross of Jesus?

Bible study: Power in the resurrection of Jesus

Posted on Updated on

Ressurection of Jesus 1 Corinthians 15 vs. 20-24:

20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.

22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

24Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

  1. 1.        Jesus Christ accurately predicted his death, the manner of his death, the number of days he would spend in the grave, and his resurrection.
  2. 2.       Jesus Christ was actually crucified on the cross, his body lowered into the grave, guards were assigned to keep watch over the grave to prevent his body from being stolen, and a stone was rolled to cover the entrance of the grave.
  3. 3.       His blood was shed on the cross, and this is the sacrifice for the remission of our sins.
  4. 4.       After his death, he went into hell, encountered Satan who had held the Saints captives, defeated him, set the Saints free, and collected the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and Hell. Before then, even the Saints that died were held captive by Satan.
  5. 5.       He is the first man to die, resurrect, and ascend bodily into heaven- all individuals that other religions claim as the Messenger died like ordinary mortals.
  6. 6.       He appeared to over 500 people after his resurrection. Many eyes saw him and witness to his resurrection.
  7. 7.       He finished his earthly assignment after his death and resurrection and all powers in earth and in heaven was given unto him

Bible Passage: God will fight for you

Posted on Updated on

Arrest of JesusJohn 18 vs. 3: 3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons

Jesus was ambushed and arrested by a gang of security operatives fully armed to the teeth. This is a psychological torture. Dakes Bible commentary on this says the gang comprise up to 600 people.

In spite of this he kept his composure and rebuked Peter for trying to resist his arrest.

We must learn how to manage crises, remain calm in face of provocation and allow God to fight for us. Jesus told Peter to put his sheath down. The battle is the Lord’s

Bible Story on Betrayal of Judas Iscariot

Posted on Updated on

                                                                                                Judas Iscariot

At times like this when we are remembering the cruxification of Jesus Christ on the cross, it is good to remind ourselves of the sufferings, agonies, torture, pain and humiliation he went through to fulfill this ministry.

John 18 vs. 3: 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. 3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons

Jesus Christ suffered emotional wreckage on the way to the cross because he was betrayed by his close aid and friend-Judas Iscariot. A man he had dined and wined with and trusted so much that he was given charge of keeping the purse.

If you have been betrayed by some you trusted or a person close to you, then you should also have the forgiving spirit of Jesus, who still called Judas a friend when he came to give him away with a kiss.

How to walk in Gods will

Posted on Updated on

John 18 vs. 1: 1

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples

Jesus was on a retreat when he was arrested, so this is spiritually destabilizing. He had gone to a garden for some quiet time with God the father.

Yet, he offered no excuses to his arresters and followed them sheepishly.

At times, unwanted guests disturb our quiet moments, we should learn how to refrain from anger and seek the will of God.
