Judges 9 vs. 19-20 – 19 If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you: 20 But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

Judges 9 vs. 56-57 – 56 Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren: 57 And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.

  1. Jotham cursed Abimelech and the people of Shechem for murdering forty children of Jerubbaal
  2. The curse came to pass and Abimelech was killed, his skull was broken to pieces by a stone.
  3. All those who live by the sword will die by the sword.
  4. Has anybody cursed you  on a legal ground?
  5. Seek divine restitution. The blood of Jesus is present to break all curses as soon as you genuinely repent.

Bible lessons on Blessings and Curses of God

Posted on Updated on

(Deuteronomy 28:1-2, 15, NIV).

“If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands that I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God….

However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you…”

The first fourteen verses of Deuteronomy 28 are ones of the passages the Bible that many people like very much. They quote the verses most often and are ready to apply them to themselves. Some ministers of God also are fond of using the verses to pray for their congregations.

However, few people would like to read the remaining part of the chapter. I was nearly guilty of this recently. I ought to read the chapter in my “Read the Bible through in a Year” schedule that day. I gladly read the first fourteen verses and even applied them to myself, but the moment I got to verse 15, I was reluctant to go ahead.

I went back to verse 1 to see the conditions attached to the blessings in those “good” fourteen verses, then, I re-read verse 15 and discovered the conditions attached to the seeming “bad” fifty-four verses that follow: diligent obedience of God’s commandments is the condition for the blessings of the first fourteen verses (see verses 1, 2, 9 and 13), while disobedience of God’s commandments is the condition for the curses in the subsequent fifty-four verses (see verses 15 and 58).

Another thing I discovered from this chapter is that Moses took extra time to explain the curses as a warning to the people. He followed the example of God in Leviticus 26 where God gave similar warning with similar pattern.

Moses had earlier summarized these warnings in Deuteronomy 11:26-28, “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse — the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known” (NIV).

A careful study of the history of the people of Israel when they eventually occupied the Promised Land reveals how all these blessings and curses came to pass in their lives. They had blessings and prosperity when they diligently obeyed the commandments of God, and curses and punishments when they disobeyed the commandments.

What do you want from God – His blessings or His curses? Claiming the blessings is not enough. You have to diligently obey His commandments as spelt out in the Scriptures to have His blessings. Obey Him and His blessings will be yours.

Curses of illicit sex

Posted on Updated on

Sex sin can bring a curse on you, your partner and/or your children.

Sex sin gives Satan a right to oppress us and our descendants through curses (see generational curses). The scriptural basis for generational curses is found in Exodus 34:6-7 and several other passages.

Promiscuity, adultery, divorce, infertility, frigidity and other reproductive problems can sometimes be traced to curses arising from sexual sin (Numbers 5:11-31).

Please note that all curses can be broken by the applied blood of Jesus (Galatians 3:13-14)

Prayers for breaking ancestral curses

Posted on Updated on

Duet: 18:9-14.

Ancestral curses cause an inherited vulnerability to demons. Have you noticed that cancer and heart disease usually show up in every generation when it starts in a family? Doctors know that some sicknesses and diseases pass from one generation to the next.

The same applies to spiritual sickness. How many alcoholics have alcoholic children? Many times, no matter how the children try not to be like Mommy or Daddy, they turn out the same. How many abused children grow up to be abusers of their children?

The curses that the children were born with, many times pass to their children and to their grandchildren. These curses can only be broken through the power and the name of Jesus
Let’s read  When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.

Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices, the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the Lord your God. ]

Now let’s read Duet. 28:58-61. If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name -the Lord your God- the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses.

He will bring upon you all the diseases ofEgyptthat you dreaded, and they will cling to you. The Lord will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed.
You say, “Didn’t Jesus take the curse for us?” Yes, Jesus took the curse of the law, which was that there was no forgiveness wider the law. There was just atonement by animal sacrifice year by year. The sin was covered by the blood of the sacrifice, not taken away. Jesus became our sacrifice to be free from the curse of the law.

Our sins are removed as far as the East is from the West, never to be remembered again. What we read here is the curse of the Lord. If we do the same things that they did, we will reap the same things that they reaped.

And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it” —Joshua 6:26

“In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun” —1 Kings 16:34

My mother just returned from a Pilgrimage trip to Israel. Her trip was a fulfillment of one of her life ambitions. She had long desired to physically see some of the towns and sites mentioned in the Holy Bible.

Few days ago, she shared with me some of her fond memories on the trip. One of the things she told me is that the city ofJerichounlike most other towns in the State of Israel is still largely in ruins. She said there are very dilapidated and ruined houses inJerichowhich contrasts sharply with the beauty of other towns inIsrael. She concluded by saying that the Biblical curse on Jericho from the mouth of Joshua still have effects even up till today!

Her narrative really gave me more insight into the effects of curses.  Curses can really have long standing effects, and unless they are broken, its effects will continue to show. Thank God for the blood of Jesus Christ

Galatians 3 vs13: Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”— 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Just like the city of Jericho, many nations, families and peoples are suffering under various curses today, and this is manifesting in form of plagues, famines, crime, poverty, unhappiness, barrenness etc. If you have noticed a contrary pattern in your life, you may be under the yoke of a curse, and this has to be broken by the power of the Holy Ghost before you can enjoy the plan of God for your life.

How can we break unbroken curses?

  1. By running to the curse breaker, give your life to Jesus and live in Holiness.
  2. By investigating our past and ancestral history to know even patterns in our family lineage.
  3. By praying in the Holy Spirit to get revelation on the root of our problems.
  4. By crying to God in prayer and fasting.
  5. By pleading the blood of Jesus and confessing the word of God against any evil spirit sponsoring and renewing any evil pattern in our life.

These are steps you can undertake yourself. You do not need any Priest to break curses over your life. All you need is the Blood of Jesus. Go ahead today and break the curse sponsoring any contrary pattern in your life

Genesis 4 vs. 11 –  And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;

  1. Curses can be self inflicted.
  2. Curses can have legal and legitimate ground to afflict their victims.
  3. If as a Christian, you wilfully commit a grievous sin such as murder, the curses will automatically follow the murderer.
  4. Watch your acts and if you have done something that brought a curse on you, confess and run to God for deliverance.

One Hour With God

 Month 1 Week 3, Day 20

Read the announcement here:

Section A: Praise and worship (12am-12.20 -1am)

Sing songs of praise and hymns to the Lord.

Section B: Bible study (12.20am-12.40am)

Psalm 20

In Joshua 19: 1,9, we are told that the inheritance of the tribe of children of Simeon was within the inheritance of the children of Judah because the share of the children was too much for them.  This seems a plausible reason especially when we read in Judges 1:3-17 that Simeon heeded his brother Judah’s invitation to “come up with me to my allotted land that we may fight against the Canaanites… And Simeon went with him”

But is that sufficient reason for a tribe to lose its identity and be absorbed in a larger one? What stopped Simeon, like Judah, to also have a large inheritance with the partnership of Judah? (Note Judges 1:17).  We need to go back to Gen. 49: 5-7 and 34: 25-31 to understand more properly the reel reason.

In these verses, we read that Simeon (and his brother Levi) were cursed by their father Jacob for killing Hamor and the men of Sheckem over the incident of Dinah. Specifically Gen. 49:7 states “A curse on their anger, because it is so fierce, And on their fury because it is so cruel.  I will scatter them throughout the land of Israel.  I will disperse them among its people “. Simeon’s lot therefore, was the wage of fierce anger and cruel fury.

Simeon’s (and Levi) resort to justify their action “should treat our sister like a harlot?” sounds reasonable.  But we should remember the bible declares “man’s anger does not achieve God’s righteous purpose” (James :19, GNB).

The Bible tells us anger rests in the bosom of fools, while a discrete (wise) man is slow to anger and overlooks offense (Ecc. 7:9, Pro. 19:11. See also Prov. 14: 7, 15: 1, 21:19, 22: 24-25, 29:22 and Eph. 4: 26).  May we not lose our inheritance to anger.  May your lot not be scattered among your brethren. (Amen).

Are blacks cursed in the Bible?

Posted on

Biblically, the black race descended from Ham, the second son of Noah, after they survived the flood (Genesis 9-10). The descendants of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan (Gen 10:6).

Contrary to misleading exegesis, it was Canaan only that was cursed (Genesis 9:5), Canaan, not Ham; neither was any of the three other sons.

Canaan descendants later included the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashitess, Hivites, the Avites etc, people groups who were later to be subjects and enemies of the Israelites, children of Abraham (Genesis 15:18 – 21, Exodus 3:8, Deuteronomy 7:1, Joshua 24:11 etc).

The curse of Ham and the Black race

Although the Old Testament scriptures focuses on God’s relationship with the Israelites, God made it clear that in  Amos 9:7 that he has the same/similar passion for the black (referred to as Ethiopians/Cushites in the old testament), as he has for the Jews.
