Job in the Bible: Sermon

  1. He was perfect before God. Job 1 vs. 1

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

2. An upright man. Job 1 vs. 1

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

3. Feared God. Job 1 vs. 1

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

4. Hated Evil. Job 1 vs. 1

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

5. Always seeking the face of God in humility and repentance. Job 1 vs. 5

And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

 6. God made an hedge around him. Job 1 vs. 10

Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

 

 7. God was proud of him. Job 1 vs. 8

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

 8. Satan falsely accused him before God. Job 1 vs. 9

Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

 9. God gave Satan power to afflict him though Job committed a sin, but God did not give Satan power to kill him. Job 2 vs. 3

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause

 

Job 1 vs. 12

And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

 10. He lost 500 assess and 500 0xen on a single day. Job 1 vs. 15

And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

11. On the same day, he lost another 7000 sheep and all his servants. Job 1nvs. 16

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

12. On the same day, he lost another 3000 camels. Job 1 vs. 17

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

13. He had seven sons and three daughters (10 children in all) who all died the same day. Job 1 vs. 19

And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

 14. When he heard of all these losses, he fell down and worshipped God. Job 1 vs. 21

And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

 15. He refused to backslide or sinned against God. Job 1 vs. 22

In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

 16. His wife asked him to curse God and die, but he refused. Job  2 vs. 9

Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die.

17.  God eventually turned around his captivity and gave him a double for his losses. Job 42 vs. 10

And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

 18.  God restored his fortunes. Job 42 vs. 12

So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

19. God gave him back his ten children including three beautiful daughters. Job 42 vs. 15And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.

 20. God prolonged his life – he saw his sons, his grand children, his great grand children, and his great,  great grand children
