Michael Jackson’s memorial service closing prayers

2009 July 9

A few Christian themes and reflections flowed through the memorial service of Michael Jackson at the Staples Center in Los Angeles yesterday. Here we share some of them with you.

Jesus is the King of Kings
Pastor Lucious Smith, closing the ceremony, said a prayer reminding the audience of the sovereignty of God. He said: “And even now the King of Pop must bow his knee to the King of Kings.” You can watch the full closing prayer abovr

Jesus is love
Lionel Richie performed ‘Jesus Is Love’ at Michael Jackson’s memorial. He sang: “Father, help your children and don’t let them fall by the side of the road…and teach them to love one another that heaven might find a place in their hearts ’cause Jesus is love, he won’t let you down…”

Jesus deserves the praise

An emotional Mariah Carey sang ‘I’ll be there’ with Trey Lorenz and ended her song by saying “Thank you, Jesus”.

Jesus gives peace

Bernice King, the daughter of civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr, spoke with passion as she gave a prayer for the Jackson family: “My prayer is that no one or nothing, public or private, fact or fiction…will separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. Because ultimately at the end of the day, it is only God’s love that will anchor you, sustain you and move you to a higher ground, far above the noise of life. There you will find the peace, comfort and joy to move forward and advance Michael’s legacy.”

God is good

Stevie Wonder got emotional as he spoke at the star’s memorial. He said: “This is a moment that I wished that I didn’t live to see come. But as much that I can say that I mean it, I do know that God is good and I do know that as much as we may feel – and we do – that we need Michael here with us, God must have needed him far more.”

The Good Samaritan
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee uses the story of the Good Samaritan in the Bible to describe Michael Jackson saying that he was a Good Samaritan “who cared and loved for the world”.

It’s time for a real revolution! When the citizens rise up against the corruption and inside political dealings, then we will have FREEDOM again, the kind of freedom our forefathers had for a very brief period of time.

    Down with LIBERALS!!
    Down with CONSERVATIVES!!

If you identify with one of these groups, you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

    GET WITH THE SOLUTION!!

Liberals seek to imprison your thoughts through such fascist tactics as Political Correctness and social blackmail.

Conservatives seek to imprison your body through tactics like the ruthless perversion of our capitalist system and an over-abundance of laws that only the insiders know well enough to manipulate.

    Revolution is coming.
    Revolution is coming.
    Revolution is coming.

I felt Pastor Lucious Smith’s prayer summed up everything. I believe that there were things said about Michael that should only be attributed to Jesus Christ. Pastor Smith seemed as if he could have felt the same way in saying that the King of Pop will have to bow to the King of Kings.

Enough said! This is the bottom line. Jesus Christ is Lord and King above all!
